Where there’s smoke, there’s fire…that how the saying goes. When it comes to the Protea’s, it should rewritten “where’s there’s choke, there’s South Africa…
The bunch of racist Loots Bosman hating losers are out of the competition, and just when it counts. I, for one, am about as glad as Smithy in a pie shop that they’re out. I hope they continually fail in tournament after tournament, until they sort out the racism issues. Goolam Bodi aka as the WaterBoy, is good enough to play for any team in the world, but not good enough for south Africa. Sad really, he most probably would have top scored. But as they say, hindsight is 20/20 . But Pro20 and in fact any format where pressure or tension is placed on the Protea’s always results in a collapse of twin tower proportions. South Africa hadn’t lost until now, when it really mattered. Looking back to the Cricket World Cup in West Indies, there too they couldn’t take the heat and frizzled into mediocrity when all south African supporters were hoping they would lift themselves to the next level. Nothing, just disappointment, something fans will continue to be tortured with until we have players who can make the grade on raw talent and ability, like the Pakistani team have done form as long as anyone can recall. The sad reality is that MOST of the country’s talent is left untapped or unrecognized simply because the gifted players didn’t go to King Edwards, Grey College or Wynberg Boys - “the Old boys network” as one of my colleagues refers to them.
Players like Makhaya Ntini calling for scrapping of quota’s is a damn shame. Ntini, himself coming from a previously disadvantaged background, has turned his back on his roots unconvincing twang & bad hairdo aside. The dramatic irony is that he is calling for others to be denied the opportunity that he was afforded, just because he has established himself as one of the untouchables. It stinks of Hypocrisy, and that too of the highest order. Ah well, he is a Protea player after all, that explains everything.
Pakistan and India are still in it with a terrific chance, and if Pakistan doesn’t go all the way, my backing goes to India, then New Zealand anyone besides the buggers from Oz …anyone…
And finally to the only South African Sports team capable of winning anything at present, and most likely to bring home some precious silverware, GO SPRINGBOKS !!!
