NEWS – REVISED 350Z
Nissan SA have released a reworked edition of the 350Z pushing out 230kw. Thanks to a revised air intake system with redesigned valves, ports, exhaust manifold & a raised compression ratio the VQ35HR max’s out at 7500rpm. Nice to see the Z getting more progressive, I drove the first edition & it’s a brilliant handling car, with excellent throttle response & power. The straight six manual leaves the car at your mercy, no electronics to intervene, a real driver’s car. Throw it into any corner & it sticks like glue thanks to near 50/50 weight distribution. The revised car has a 15mm lower centre of gravity & a carbon fibre driveshaft to further improve handling & reduce weight. It will accelerate to 100Km/h in 5.7s. Best of all is that sweet sounding six pot exhaust note- properly race tuned, nothing comes close not even some V8 monsters. Even better is with the Bose sound system options they plant a Biryani pot right behind your seat (sub woofer). In terms of looks this car is just stunning, being one of the feature cars in the Fast and the Furious 3 you understand why.

Other News – VW has released a GT Sport edition of the Golf available in 1.4 turbo or 2.0 diesel (not yet in S.A). All things diesel are evil so lets look at the petrol, the1.4 TSI (125Kw) uses both a supercharger & turbo on the same motor. The Supercharger kicks in at low rpm to beat turbo lag & the turbo at higher rpm for top end power. Probably due in 2008, nice!! Golf fans must be grinning ‘n all the R32 was just released - looks good. The 3.2 V6 DSG stumps out 184kw & 320nm @6300rpm with AWD &18” rims, it should take the fight quite nicely to beemers 130i in the premium hatch sector. Premium hatch? Sounds daft, exactly!! Golf’s not really golf anymore just a rebadged overpriced Audi (same motor as A3 3.2). At R344 000 & only 200 available is it really the spirit of Golf ?

The new Skyline GTR has been spotted at the Nurburg ring in Germany doing test laps. It was heavily disguised. Still anyones guess what the power plant will be, reportedly a 4.5 litre V8 @335Kw-

While we on the subject of the Z, let us SHIFT_focus to a legend of days of gone by - the NISSAN 300ZX twin turbo. A car with genuine race pedigree & accolades to boot. Like this for example, the JUN-BLITZ 300ZX holds the land speed record in the e/bms class at Bonneville at 419Km/h, Fcuk me, Japs rule!! Added to that GTS championship & 24hours of Daytona wins a plenty & 3 consecutive titles at Sebring. The ZX is a very sort after car on the local scene, 15 years on & okes are still asking R140K for the twin turbo. It featured variable valve timing, twin intercoolers & viscous limited slip firing out 224kw. It hits 100Km/h in 5 seconds dead. The car truly came alive in the aftermarket tuning scene with body kits & tuning bits from upgraded turbos to titanium exhaust systems. Three such specimens will be featured in drag scene.

Mods – Performance Chips

This is the last step in the so called “stage 1” mod programme. Which is where I would recommend all sane insaans to stop. Most alloos like myself have past this point. Tis the point of no return, if you choose to pass this point your fate is boost, you will cry (or addhuy) once u slaat in dat race clutch & all your buks has vanished. You will be sucked into the world of horse power freaks.
A performance chip harnesses the efficiency enhancements made to the motor by the CAI, fuel regulator & exhaust mods to produce even greater power output. It does this by replacing a chip on your cars ECU that contains all the lookup tables for fuelling, ignition, & air flow. The standard ECU works off different parameters supplied by sensors around the motor, which provide input such as oxygen levels coolant/oil temperatures, fuel rate etc to manage combustion in the motor during different driving conditions & throttle positions. Assuming input air ratios, fuel pressure & output air flow rates to your motor have been improved a performance chip will be programmed to increase fuel rates & ignition timing to enhance combustion which would yield more power. Since the primary objective of a chip is to produce more power it might not consider emission regulations which standard ECU’s are governed by. Therefore even without any prior mods you would be able to eek out more power from a motor simply by chipping. For best results my advice on the matter is firstly to complete all other stage 1 mods before chipping POVRAVOH?

This silky savage suited up in Orion silver paint armed with twin TD06-20G turbos, a Bell front mount intercooler & stunning IForged wheels slaps out 780Kw. Believe it.

Hot Spots
Coming up at the end of this month 29th June is the Ferodo Illegal 2 legal drag racing event at Wesbank raceway. This is a knockout street car drag racing event with plenty of thrills like IASCA sound off & “downuts” by some maal okes just for the heck of it. Oh & a lot of different type of badaams for different tastes at these shows hehe.
