Its not a quote but a thought of the week: Kallis plays for his average and not the team. Whats the Bloggs view on that??
ReplyDeletethere is a difference between being selfish and being unable to do a job. kallis is not lara/ponting. accept that. kallis was not batting for an average. his job was to bat through to 50 overs and allow gibbs, boucher, kemp and pollock to go big on the other side. however as wickets went down he then had to make sure he did not go out.catch 22. where kallis went wrong was that he was unable to speed up after 50 balls. the mistake occurred when kallis was sent in at three. they should have sent in hall/pollock to take advantage of the upcoming powerplay that ponting would have chosen. it would have been worth the risk to chance a lower order batsman for the benefit of an extra 20 runs in a powerplay. but because kallis and gibbs were new to the crease (ab dismissal and smith injury meant that ) they could not take advantage of the powerplay. so kallis was not batting for an average. he tried to leave too much for the end but it caught up with him. the 'selfish kallis' crusade is from those dont understand cricket and just follow media hype.
ReplyDeleteYou have a point Mr. Kirsten. My point is Kallis has the ability to tear any bowling line up apart. All he had to do was take advantage of the power play. Take more risks in his batting. It could have cost him his wicket, but surely the team goal is more important than his wicket. No point in batting out the overs if you not attacking the target. Perhaps S.A need more attacking batsmen. Like likes of both Kallis and Prince can slow things down.
ReplyDeletemR KIRSTEN, THE GUY IS GOOD, BUT U SAID IT HE IS NO PONTING,SACHIN OR LARA. WHY THEN DO THE SA MEDIA AND MANY SA SUPPORTERS BUILD HIM HIM UP TO BE IN THAT CLASS WHEN HE AINT. HE HAS A SOLID TECHNIQUE BUT HE IS TOO RIGID. HE CANT CHANGE THE PACE OF HIS INNINGS. HE WAS TOO BLAME FOR THE LOSS. IN A GAME WHERE ALL THE AUSIES BATTED AT STRIKE RATES OVER 100, HE WAS WAY TOO PEDANTIC. AFTER THE START THE OPENERS GAVE HE SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER. IN GAMES LIKE THAT AFTER A COUPLE OF OVERS OF GETTING YOUR EYE IN U GOTTA GO FOR IT.
