Greddy are at it again coming to the market with a universal VTEC controller, that’s right not just for honda. The Greddy V-Manage can be used on Subaru Sti / Mitsu Evo IX / 350Z / Toyota VVTi e & Civic Type R, all of which employ variable valve timing. Unlike other Vtec controllers the V-manage comes with pre-programmed application specific maps, to optimize vtec shift point & boost response. It’s a plug and play system that also allows for detailed tinkering. The V-manage is a stand alone unit which works off signals from the stock ECU customising valve timing settings through adjustment of valve timing maps, which produces quicker engine response & better performance. Dyno graphs of tests on the Evo IX proved better mid range power & torque gains. Just one shlap though, this unit cannot tinker fuel & ignition maps - sheeet !! For that ma outies u will need to get the E-manage Ultimate which basically spells more zuk. Greddy claim its an independent unit but without adjusting the fuel & ignition its not as good as civic specific controllers like the Hondata which allows control of all maps. It’s a nice unit if you already have the E-manage Ultimate but civic drivers will probably stick to multiple map controllers.

News – The Audi S5 - 335 eater
I hav stumbled upon this new model Audi whilst minding my own business deleting spam. Anyways it’s worth a shout out, its due in 2008 this 4.2 litre V8 animal comes straight up against the BM 335i. Audi seems to be quick off the mark these days with new models popping out evry whicher way.
Compared to the 335i twin turbo this normally aspirated V8 FSI employs a 6 speed manual gearbox, S-tronic dual clutch & Quattro (like it - manual for the masters). With total power output of 260Kw & and estimated 0-100 in 5.1 sec its definitely more powerful & quicker than the beemer. Check it !!

Mods - the CAI (Cold Air Intake)
Cool dense air delivered to the motor in greater quantities results in vey efficient fuel combustion which = more power. A CAI basically consists of customised pipe running from the cars throttle body away from the motor towards an open space near the grill or headlight of the car attached to a cone filter. As the car moves the cone will be exposed to greater amounts of cold air entering the engine bay . It would'nt be kwaai to take a good breath of hot warm air. Now imagine breathing in hot warm air of 35 to 45 degrees all the time, just a matter of time before u flippin freak out. Sadly this is the situation in most cars. Don’t wanna get too technical - scientifically speaking cool air is denser & contains more air molecules allowing for better combustion efficiency – Eish. Cone filters deliver larger volumes of air & to take it a step further you can modify your front bumper by inserting an air intake duct inline with the filter to ensure the motor is always fed A grade air. Also effective but not as efficient is a performance replacement flat bed filter, these filters air engineered for better intake volume & will improve fuel efficiency. All said, CAI's are very effective & will give your ride a sportier growl. Brands include K&N, BMC & Simota.

Subaru's are by far not an object of beauty, thought I'd share one such specimen who has been getting alot of beauty sleep. Thanks to a Charge Speed body kit with carbon fibre hood & ball bearing turbo this pimped out & boosted WRX Sti stateside belts out 370 kw. Local WRX drivers > take a page out of this pimp master !! lot a quickies on the track but no “rooparies “.
The EJ25 employs a GT35R twister,
APS intercooler,
Turbosmart 28mm wastgate & supersonic bov,
255lph fuel pump with 850 cc injectors,
17-inch SSR Competition Wheels
& for the true connoisseur Unorthordox Racing Pulley Kit, nuff respect to that.
Mr B - welcomes more comments.
Magic Scooby - probably causing alot of damaal on da sreets of L.A.

Mr B

ReplyDeleteHow can you compare the S5 to the 335i?
ReplyDeleteThe S division of Audi should be compared with the M division from BMW and the AMG division of Merc.
The 335i should rightfully be compared with the A 5 range.
Surely the 335i will kick ass, after all it was voted engine of the year. You wanna talk about S5 then the boys from Bavaria gonna have to whipp out the all new V8 M3.
BMW: Sheer Driving Pleasure or is it Ultimate Driving Machine
Biggy The new E90 M3 is directly up against the current RS4 by popular media sentiment - 309Kw vs M3's 313 Kw, makes sense. Audi are'nt selling any A5's currently so no comparison there ! I would differ with your view in saying that the Audi RS division is in comparison with BMW M division.
ReplyDeleteAudi are intending to bring out a V10 RS 5, which will be up against the M5. Infact with quatro drive the audi RS4 is quicker with 4.8s than the new M3 V8 with estimated 5.0 s 0-100Kmh.
According to Audi Germany they will market the S5 to compete against the BMW 335i.
MrB - check out my M3 article next week.
Mr B i agree with biggy, im not disputing the fact Audi might be marketing and targeting the car against the 335i but ones a six and the other's a eight cylinder, i say measure engines according to their size and see which is the most effecient, compare that motor to another eight cylinder and see which performs better and a accurate comparison can be made, normally aspirated engines cannot be compared to turbo or supercharged engines, V8 v V8 i say
ReplyDeleteFair point faaiz, but manufacturers pricing & power output of a vehicle is in line with its competitors. The RS4 @ 309Kw & priced at 620K+ will definately compete against the new V8 M3. The S5 power of 260Kw will be priced to compete with the 335i.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading what you gotta say perhaps you right Mr B. The RS division will take on M power. All i can gather from that is that their initial Sport Division "S" could not come near the M Power. So Audi have gone one further and created the "RS" division to try and take on the Bavarians.
ReplyDeleteOne thing for sure they gonna have to come in cheaper then the BMW's to attract buyers in South Africa.
Biggy
What about showing a black M3 Mr B.
ReplyDeleteI still say that Merc is better than BMW.....
Will the Nissan 350z beat a M
Karee Bilaree
THE BLACK KAT
I took a SLK 55 AMG (V8) for a spin a couple of weeks ago. The accelleration was mind boggling, it was insane. A scud missile on 4 wheels. Needles to say it was a karee AMG. But its the type of car for old toppies. The car thinks for you every step of the way. Too many electronics. In terms of driveability the 350Z is brilliant, I drove a few. Stephen Simpson the local A1 driver rated this car as one of the best production track cars, on the track it was only 0.5 slower than the e46 M3, NO DOUBT THE M AT 250kW is quicker, but the 350 holds its own in terms of driveability.
ReplyDeleteMr B
350z vs audi tt. whats your guys take on this i reckon the tt is a much better car than the 350z
ReplyDeleteHonestly for me if i were in the market and had the finances to shop either the RS4, M3 or AMG i would not really consider the engines, at the end of the day the power outputs are so similiar it would come down to the drive and feel of the car and of course the looks, 0.2 sec quicker aint gona make much difference unless you going to the drags and generally the guys driving them are not really dragsters or should i say majority, i personally am a BMW fan and im sure that BMW's rear wheel drive will excite not only me but most buyers into spending their cash on a BMW instead, BMW generally sets the bar when it comes to german cars and all other cars are compared to them thanks to a superior drive and feel of the car allowing the driver optimum enjoyment and off course far superior engines that really are the most effecient, for 3 of their engines to win in their categories at the best engines awards is a true reflection on the length BMW must be going to be the best, the M5 engine winning the best sports engine in the open category is a accomplishment coz in that category you up against the ferrari's and lambo's, look at the E46 M3 its a normal aspirated straight six engine and look at the output, merc slaps on a supercharger on their AMG's just to keep up with the M division so that says something on its own, americans just increase capacity and im not sure but would not be surprised if their vipers are sitting at 10litre or 12 litre capacity, you gotta respect the bavarians just wish the new car prices were not so damn high
ReplyDelete350z what a car, the drive is awesome and power is readily available, because of the Jap influence in Aus i seen some ridiculously powerful and absolutely gorgeous 350z's at the car shows, new Audi though looks fantastic, not gona bother thinking which one i'd choose coz i'd be wasting my time unless i could actually afford one and looking to buy coz thats a difficult choice, dark grey 350Z convertible with 20inch wheels and nismo mods is beautiful but so is the Audi. Mr B its a pity i dont have photo's of some of the RX-7's, supra's, skylines(but personally i think they look like shit), S2000, EVO'S ETC. Never seen a more beautiful JAP car than this one RX-7 fully done and moded to i cant remember exactly but around 1000bhp mark, all that power with a sexy body what more can you ask for
ReplyDeleteFaaiz I definately would'nt agree that BMW sets the benchmark, its only in this country the media glorifies BM. If you look at markets like U.K & U.S Lexus has dominated the luxury car sector over the last 5 years. Honda has consistently topped the JD power quality surveys world wide. The germans are good but japs are smarter, nissan had aluminium engine technology 10 years ago, BMW are only bragging about it now in the E90 range. The 350z won engine of the year when it was released & subaru won it last year with 2.5 turbo motor. I would'nt say merc are keeping up they just have there own style, supercharging etc. Same as BM who make alot of power because of individual throtle bodies & vanos sytems on there M power motors. Sounds like you based in Aus where Nissan following is very strong & Skyline is King, send some pics to Swoosh he'll forward to me, I wanna see some nismo beasts broo !!
ReplyDeletecomment above by MrB
ReplyDeleteMr B i have to disagree, when subaru launched the updated STI it was pitted against non other than the M3, when merc and Audi launched their Amg and RS4 it was only compared to non other than the M3, i cant comment on the UK and US markets but in Aus the 1 series due mainly to being rear wheel drive, 3 series and X5 is regarded as the benchmark of their segments, X5 was the highest selling luxury SUV in Aus but not sure if it still is.
ReplyDeleteM3 engine when launched won engine of the year as well, its old now but still holds its own, last time i read only the S2000 engine competes with it capacity and output wise, im pretty sure i never brought any of the magazines back with me but if i find them i'll pass them on to you coz the motoring journalists have alot of good things to say.
Mind you nissan and mazda are coming up and new MX-5, RX-8 AND 350Z'S are cars the germans should be afraid of
i might be mistaken here but as far as i know M3 has never won engine of the year. It was the 3.0 engine found in the 330, and 530 that won engine of the year. Now once again the 335 currently holds the engine of the year award. The 330 is a far more balnced engine whereas the M3 engine is purely for speed.
ReplyDeleteBiggy
I think the 350z is a sublime car and quick but i dont think can run a M3.The sportech kit is wicked as well as rims.Looks like a real sports car.Im sure this kebbab must be catching the aunties eyes.
ReplyDeleteActually Biggy it has won it and you can check how many times just check out the link
