BAFANA BAFANA VS SPAIN

So Bafana Bafana made it to 88 minutes. They played well I thought.I expected them to go to extra time and frustrate the Brazilians and with the backing of the partisan crowd just maybe cause an upset. But lets be honest, They lacked punch up front in that final third.

88 MINUTES and a Danny Alves cracker. was heart breaking for the masses. And I cant understand Santana making a change in stoppage time like he was 2-0 to the good. Overall it was a great performance for the boys and the country and a big step toward 2010.Now we off to see Brazil vs the USA and what can I say......It should be Brazils tournament

WHO WILL MAKE IT TO THE FINAL

WTF. Spain are dumped out.losing 2-0 to USA. I got a buddy thats got 20 tickets to third and fourth place playoff.
He wants 1000 a piece. Call me if anyones interested. But really. The USA...There goes one half of the dream final.Woeful defending. What was Ramos thinking. Villa and Torres were firing blanks. I got no words I open the floor.

In retrospect now..Whats the prediction for tomorrow. Maybe we have a Bafana Bafana vs USA
Final. Predictions!

On Monday though I had to go to Rashid Cassim Sports in Fordsburg. This is where all the lads wind up after the game and we have the post mortems. So I got a few words from the lads and customers on their views on the Italy game and their tournament predictions

ITALY VS EGYPT

DA AZZURI ARE IN DE'NILE

What can I say, I am gutted. The Pharoahs came to Ellis Park and showed why they are the Champions of Africa. They beat Italy 1-0. In truth though the Italians had plenty chances. Egypt took their one chance and buried it. Buffon could do nothing. And Italy must have themselves to blame as they next face the Mighty Brazil on Sunday in the game of the Confeds Cup.
The atmosphere again was electric. We were in Category four.Upper terraces. You could view the game properly and it was amazing to see from the view we had, a bit cold up there lol. We with a full Swoosh0018 Crew with myself and Freds the die hard Italy owes. The crowd was amazing. Also in Defence you could clearly see the class of Fabio Cannavaro. The Italian stopper made some classy interventions and rescued Chiellini on a few occations. But to see him Marshalling his troops live, was class. Theres lots of things you miss on TV.The Park and Ride was awesome going to the ground but for some a nightmare again. Please share your input again for the second game at Ellis Park, logistics etc.

But tonight was a sad night and I cannot say more. The atmosphere awesome. The result ...Well its off to Bloemfontein on Saturday for Swoosh0018 and Pretoria on Sunday...but for now

Forza Azurri
On Sunday we out dance the Samba Dancers

Swoosh0018's undercover reporter Ary Karolia was on hand to capture these two interviews with Miss Egypt and Miss Italy. Now thats sublime

CONFEDS CUP ROUND 2

DONT CLOSE THE DARWAJOH (DOOR)
By Uncle Bhai Gora

Quote of The Week

Of the millions of members COSATU has, the least they can do is provide BAFANA BAFANA with 1 GOOD STRIKER:-)-N Patel (Rustenburg)

Well our Uncle Bhai Gora who is pro Sacking Santana has his update on last nites game.
http://killa.co.za/blog/?p=185 (For Profile on Uncle Bhai Gora)

Although many fans ver calling for Santana to be sacked Bafana Bafana pulled off a great victory last night. Bernard Parker who vas da villain on Sunday scored twice and vell there must be no big hoo haa because New Zealand are shit and a vin was compulsory. But neverderless vell played Bafana.Good for da people ,Good for da Country.

Pienaar made da difference and I thought Masileli vas class. But for Santana da Mugg its not plain sailing just yet. If Iraq beat New Zealand by great margin and Spain hump us...Den Santana and da boys are out. So let see vat happens. But for da country and da people great result. If only ve beat Iraq hey.Den ve vudnt be in da Perishaans (problems).

And vats did wit Christiano and Paris Hilton. De way it seems to me is dat dey both have a love /hate relationship wid clubs and both are banged around by da guys. Match made in heaven he he. Maybe vel see a home video wid Penaltinho and Paris called PP....One night after Manchester!

In the other game Spain were expected to demolish Iraq but ran out 1-0 winners and duely qualified thanks to a David Villa header.

ITALY VS USA-CONFEDS CUP 2009

Last night myself,Mo,Faiz Oz,Killa,Nabeeha and Mini decided to watch the Italians against USA. I was a bit worried as I had no match ticket but managed to score a Category 1 ticket 3 rows away from the pitch and watching from there was unbelievable. It was my first time at LOFTUS and the stadium is incredible. The atmosphere was great, the fans were awesome and the Azzuri ran out 3-1 winners.

I took some footage to depict the atmosphere below and more importantly the Azurri got their campaign underway with a victory. And great goals they were. The lad Rossi a revelation. Pirlo was also fantastic. I was quite worried during the first half as Italy struggled. The USA Striker(Hesky lookalike) was giving Chielini and Legro a hard time. The Red Card,Harsh but cancelled out with the Italian goal ruled for Offside. And when USA converted the Penalty to make it 1-0 I thought we in for it. Second half and with the introduction of Rossi who chose Italian citizenship as opposed to his place of Birth USA fired Italy into the lead. Then De Rossi fired from distance and his Celebration at the Italian Bench clearly illustrates that Italy are here to mean business and they taking the tournament seriously.

The third was just breathtaking with Pirlo the architect. 3-1.The victory was important and what many Italian Fans wanted. The walk back to the Park and Ride and out of the Stadium was encompassed by chanting Azurri Fans. For me.....I had the privilegde of experiencing all of this LIVE from a great seat with great Fans

In the other group game Brazil were stunned by an Egyptian Comeback. The Pharoahs showed that they will be no push overs come Thursday night at Ellis Park and if it wasnt for a late Kaka Penalty Brazil would not have won. Kaka THE GALACTICO shone!

So its off to Ellis Park on Saturday for swoosh0018.com.Cant wait,

Forza Azurri

On Thurdsay we put the Pharoahs in their tombs for the tournament

CONFEDS CUP OPENING CEREMONY

In the words of Jacob Zuma the 2009 Confederations Cup is now open. And Swoosh0018.com was there. We went in a full antorage. All the lads...so it was awesome. First I want some comments on the following. Will really appreciate the input.

How was the PARK AND RIDE FACILITY. Was it efficient. Does it need refining. Did people make it to the ground on time. Which is the best Park and Ride facility that our owes from Lenz and Fordsburg should use. Is the PARK AND RIDE A good thing? Please some structured comments here will be appreciated?

And also please share your comments on the Check Points, The ticketing etc.

For us.The Park and Ride was ok. We sat a bit in traffic at Wits, parked and made it through the que. The ride to Ellis Park was lekker and traffic Free, A bit of a bottle neck at first Check point and I think they should open up more ailes or guys should get there early. Im worried about the Loftus game,Italy vs Brazil. Hope all goes well.
But the one fortunate aspect was that the seating was sublime, Security was tight and this ensued no s@3t in the stadium. We missed the Opening Ceremony but it was a good guide of what to expect.

The atmosphere was awesome, the football not so. Bafana struggled against minnows Iraq who put on a good show. The fans were passionate but I thought Santana didnt attack enough. Tico Modise was relied upon too much and how much could the man do. Sa didnt use the width and there were two clear cut chances that they had to take, Also Bernard Parker blocked a header which was surely 1-0 to Bafana Bafana. Fans were understandably upset with Bafanas showing and many we spoke too were calling for Santanas head. A draw with Iraq was unaccaptable. They must beat New Zealand now and they put themselves in a tricky situation.

Overall though was great to be at the ground and incident free.

In the other game Spain and Torres were rampant. They destroyed New Zealand and were clinical. They look favourites. Some comments from the Rustenburg owes that were there will be appreciated. Swoosh0018's Cisse was at the game and got us some pics. How was the game Cisse. Can you give us some feedback?

And to Italy vs USA we go. I wont be there, but Forza Azurri and I hope we beat the YANKS. The other game is Brazil vs Egypt.

So a great week lies ahead. The Swoosh0018 crew are off to Italy vs Egypt at Ellis Park next,Spain vs Bafana Bafana in Bloemfontein and then the Big one ,Italy vs Brazil in Loftus. Cant wait and gotta conserve the energy

CONFEDS CUP PREVIEW

WOZA SA 2010 WOZA
FIFA CONFEDERATIONS CUP 2009 PREVIEW:

The FIFA Confederations Cup is a tournament that FIFA has implemented recently. It currently includes the winners of each of the 6 Different Confederations Competitions being North & Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa & Oceania as well as the Current World Cup Champions and World Cup Hosts. The first tournament was first held back in 1992 in Saudi Arabia, however this Competition was initially called The King Fahd Cup. In fact the 1995 and 2nd edition of this competition was also called the King Fahd Cup and also held in Saudi Arabia. The first time the Competition was officially called the Confederations Cup was in 1997 where it was also held in Saudi Arabia. Argentina became the first ever Champions back in 1992 where only 4 Nations took part. Denmark won the competition in 1995 and the Mighty Brazilians, with stars Ronaldo, Romario & Denilson, walked away with the trophy in 1997 when the competition first had 8 Nations participating. The 1999 Confederations Cup was held in Mexico where the hosts were victorious. In 2001 the competition was held in Korea and Japan as a curtain raiser for the FIFA World Cup which was held in the same countries in 2002. The Winners in 2001 were France. In 2003 France were both hosts and defending Champions and they became the first team to win the competition consecutively. The Tournament was however overshadowed by the death of Cameroon Player Mark Vivien Foe who passed away during the semi-final between Cameroon and Colombia. The 2005 Confederations Cup was held in Germany as they were the hosts for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. All future Confederations Cups would now be held every 4 years with the hosts being the FIFA World Cup hosts as well. The Champions in 2005 were Brazil.
Confederations Cup 2009 Preview – South Africa

The 2009 Confederations Cup being held here in South Africa will start on Sunday 14th June 2009 at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg where hosts South Africa will take on Asian Champions Iraq. The 2 week tournament will conclude with the final being held at Ellis Park on the 28th of June 2009. The other host cities for the Confederations Cup include Rustenburg, Bloemfontein & Pretoria.

GROUP A
SOUTH AFRICA SPAIN IRAQ NEW ZEALAND

Group A features hosts South Africa, Bafana Bafana, who could not have got a kinder draw. Grouped with Iraq and New Zealand our boys have definitely got the best possible draw to qualify for the semi-finals. Under Brazilian coach Joel Santana, South Africa have been below par, by failing to qualify from the 1st phase of both the 2010 AFCON & FIFA World Cup Qualifiers making the Confederations Cup the last Competitive opportunity for us before the 2010 World Cup. The omission of Benni Mccarthy & Nasief Morris for disciplinary reasons and the loss of Surprise Moriri to injury was a setback for us but the likes of Teko Modise & Steven Pienaar should still provide enough for us to beat both New Zealand and Iraq. Lets hope we can achieve at least a semi-final. Well if South Africa were pleased with the draw then Spain must be ecstatic with their passage to the knockout phase. Defending European Champions and current World Number 1, Spain are among the favourites to win the tournament and definitely Group A. Coach Vicente Del Bosque has taken over from successful Euro 2008 Coach, Luis Aragones, and has almost ensured that Spain have qualified for the 2010 World Cup with their 100% Record. Led by Goalkeeping Legend Iker Casillas Spain boast a host of superstars who are playing well as a unit. The loss of both Marcos Senna & Andreas Iniesta to injury should not be a problem for Spain who have the likes of David Silva, Xavi, Fabregas & Xabi Alonso all fighting for places in the centre of the park. Upfront the lethal combination of Torres & Villa will be handful for any defence. Iraq the reigning Asian Champions are the only team at the 2009 Confederations Cup that will definitely not be coming to the 2010 World Cup as they have been eliminated prior to the final phase of the Asian Qualification Section. However Iraq do have a squad who have played together for many years and have enjoyed various success as a team including the 2000 Asian Youth Championship, Semi-finalists at the 2004 Athens Olympic and of course the 2007 Asian Cup. Under Coach Bora Milutinovic, they have a coach who has vast international success coaching 5 different teams at FIFA World Cups which is a record. Star Player and Captain Younis Mahomed will be the key if Iraq are to progress to the semi-finals. New Zealand are perhaps better known for their Rugby. The loss of their Injured captain Ryan Nelson who plays for Blackburn Rovers is a big blow to New Zealand’s already tough task. Star striker and leading scorer Shane Smeltz needs to be at his best if New Zealand are to have any chance of qualification.

GROUP B
BRAZIL ITALY EGYPT USA

Group B is a much tougher group. Current South American champions Brazil are always looked upon as one of the favourites for any international football competition. Coach Dunga has decided against calling up superstars Ronaldo and Ronaldinho into his squad. However Brazil should have more than enough talent to produce results with the likes of Daniel Alves, Kaka, Robinho & Pato all in the squad. By the time they play Italy in the game of the group phase, Brazil will hoped to have already qualified for the semi-final. Italy the reigning World Cup Champions had a forgettable Euro 2008 campaign. Their disappointment in that competition led to Coach Donadoni being replaced by World Cup wining coach Marcelo Lipi being reinstated. Since their disappointment at the Euro 2008 championships, Italy have got back to their winning ways and currently lead the 2010 Qualifying Group. Defence has always been the backbone of Italian success of late and with the likes of Cannavaro, Zambrotta & goalkeeper Buffon it is no different this time. Pirlo should be the main man in midfield along with De Rossi. Like Brazil Italy will hope to already be in the semi-finals before they play the Brazilians in their final group game. Egypt, the reigning AFCON champions are perhaps the most consistent team in Africa having won the last 2 Nations Cup competitions. Coach Hassan Shehata has created a good team that has played together for some time. He has however left out Wigan Striker Mido but Egypt still have talent with the likes of Mohamed Aboutrike, Mohamed Zidane & Amr Zaky in the team. Egypt have a tough task to make it from this Group but playing in Africa they hope will assist them in causing an upset. USA are perhaps the underdogs of the Group having a very tough task ahead if they hope for success at the Confederations Cup. Coach Bob Bradley will be looking to his experienced European stars Carlos Bocanegra, DaMarcus Beasley and Landon Donavan to be on form if USA like Egypt hope to cause an upset and take out either Italy or Brazil.

QUALIFIERS:
ASIA
Japan for the 2nd World Cup in a row became the first team to qualify for the World Cup after they beat Uzbekistan 1-0. Australia & Korea Republic (South) also joined Japan as guaranteed qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup. With just 1 direct place and 1 playoff place available the battle for the rest of the Asian confederation including Saudi Arabia and Iran is set to hot up.
AFRICA
The Big 5 seeded teams in Africa had mixed fortunes in the recent qualifiers that took place this past weekend. Nigeria and Ivory Coast were both successful with victories, however Tunisia and Burkina Faso also won keeping the pressure on the both of them. Ghana won their tie 2-0 over Kanoute’s Mali and are looking good in their group. Cameroon played to a goalless draw against Morocco and the both of them are not looking good in their group being last and 2nd last respectively. Egypt were shocked by a 3-1 loss to Algeria and are now bottom of their group. Its early days but some of the Big Teams are already in a bit of trouble.

NORTH AMERICA
The USA were dealt a qualifying defeat by Costa Rica, but recovered over the weekend to beat Honduras 2-1 and are now 2nd behind Costa Rica who beat Trinidad 3-2. Mexico are struggling in the group and once again lost this time to El Salvador and are currently 5th. Newly appointed Mexican coach Javier Aguirre has a job on his hands to lead the Mexicans to the World Cup.

SOUTH AMERICA
Brazil, Argentina, Chile & Paraguay are all looking good to take the 4 direct places available to the South American confederation for the 2010 World Cup. While leaders Paraguay suffered defeats to both Chile and Brazil they are still third. Brazil who thumped Uruguay 4-0 and then beat Paraguay have moved to the top of the table followed by Chile who also won both their games and both are looking good to qualify. Argentina once again stumbled by losing 2-0 to Ecuador but are still in 4th place and need to start being consistent.

EUROPE
Portugal’s disappointing qualifying campaign looks to have come good with a 2-1 victory over Albania but currently in 3rd place 7 points off the leaders Denmark and 4 points behind Hungary they need to have a string of good results to stand a chance of qualifying. Slovakia achieved the biggest victory of the rounds with a 7-0 smashing of San Marino and moved to the top of Group 3. England continued their dominance in Group 6 as they blasted Kazakhstan 4-0 and Andorra 6-0 and so maintained their 100% record. England are almost through to South Africa needing just 1 more victory out of 3. The biggest news out of Europe is that the Netherlands became the 1st European team and 4th nation to qualify for the FIFA 2010 World Cup after they beat Iceland 2-1.

ITALY VS NEW ZEALAND-WATCHING MY FIRST LIVE ITALY GAME

When you expect nothing and you get something in return,Thats Destiny-Meatloh from "Blood in Blood Out"

Well, Even I wouldnt have expected how this night would Unfold. But as an Azzuri supporter. What a night. Myself,Faaiz Oz and Mo Cassim decided last minute to take a drive to the Atteridgville Staudim in Pretoria to watch our first live Italy Game. And it was freakin cold and rainy. We left at 19:30 and when we got to Woodmead, it was bumper to bumper. Rain and miserable weather. We hit Woodmead OffRamp and was a bit congested,we got the stadium at Kick off. It was freezing and raining. Italy went 1-0 down.

To see the team that you support and the World Champions Live was amazing. Theres so much that you miss on TV. The space that strikers create and the off the ball running. Dossena who I criticised looked sublime in reality, albeit it was New Zealand but as a footballer you admire the vision, passing and sheer magnitude of the game. Iquinta was awesome and full of pace,Zambrotta bombarding down the wing. Gatusso and his combative tactics in midfield was also something. But Andrea Pirlo was awesome. His composure on the ball, silky touches and vision was unbelievable. They make it look so easy.
Italy won 4-3 and Pirlo and the first team players changed the game. The crowd was mainly made up of supporters from the Italian Club in Bedford view who turned out in busloads to make the trip.

The weather though was horrific. We waited around after the game taking pics and my battery power was going. We were right at the tunnel.Fabio Cannavaro walked passed, we greeted and we were the only okes in the stands, Then my friends the THEORY OF THE GUAAI OR KLIPPA and we were in the dressing rooms. Unbelievable. Lippi and Cannavaro and all the players wallking around. We just greeted the Azurri as they walked pass. What a moment for an Azurri Fan. Cannavaro didnt play and was walking about. Stood face to face with Lippi and a few others. Then we wounded our way to the Press conferences and to the Italian Team Bus. Mo was smitten, gesturing to Buffon that he is the best in the World and a number one fan. Buffon gestured back. By that time Goolams law my battery died but MO got the exclusive footage of the Dressing Room which we will upload soon. But we kept chanting the names when they walked pass us. Gracia Fabio,Gracia Marcelo Lippi and Forza Gatusso,Rino. For us as fans it was the ultimate. Up close with the World Champions. When will we ever repeat this feat,

But for football lovers we are in for a treat here in South Africa. The chance to watch the best in the World. Trust me. Its something else

For Azurri Fans there is an open training session on Friday 4.30 at the Atteridgeville Stadium where Italy will take on the Tshwane x11. Its and open session to the public

But Forza Azurri.

What a night. And stay tuned for the Exclusive Footage .Up Close with the Azurri.Coming Soon

BAFANA PLAYERS GONE MAD

DONT CLOSE THE DARWAJOH (DOOR)

By Uncle Bhai Gora

Finally i agree vit SAFA. Vat is gone wrong.Everytime ve have a big tournament. Da guys get hungry for money. Wat is da problemVy do dey alvays do this. What do the readers think. Are da players gone mad! Here article below from AOL.Im, still investigating.Vill add some more info later

The South African Football Association say they will not accede to "ridiculous" bonus demands from Bafana Bafana players as they head into the Fifa Confederations Cup.The players held meetings this week to discuss whether or not to accept Safa's offer of R90 000 per win in the group phase of the competition, which would add up to R650 000 if they win the eight-team tournament that will kick off on Sunday. It's been reported that some senior members of the side lobbied for as much as R180 000 per win but the majority of the squad were said on Tuesday night to be ready to accept Safa's offer.

Safa presented players this week with contracts stipulating they would earn R90 000 for a win in the group stages, half of that for a draw and nothing for a defeat.
'The bonus issue is not up for discussion'If the team reach the semi-finals they will be guaranteed R400 000 each while a place in the final would earn them a further R100 000.And if they win the final, they get an extra R150 000, taking their earnings to R650 000.Safa chief executive Raymond Hack reiterated on Tuesday that the bonus issue was "not up for discussion" although it was understood players had yet to hand in signed contracts to the Bafana administrators, as they were still lobbying for a better pay structure."We spoke about this and reached a conclusion some time ago and, as far as the association is concerned, the matter is closed," Hack said.He said he found it puzzling that the bonus issue was rearing its head again just before the start of the tournament.

'I thought we'd gone past this culture of springing financial demands'"I thought we'd gone past this culture of springing financial demands days before the tournament. That's why we addressed the matter some time ago."He would not confirm how much the association had offered but said the figures mentioned "are ridiculous" and warned that players should declare if they want to play for the national team or not."Anybody who doesn't want to play for the team should say so," said Hack.Meanwhile Steven Pienaar was a notable absentee as Bafana trained in freezing conditions at Milpark Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Everton midfielder was resting as he was recovering from a knee injury, although he should be fit enough to face Iraq in Bafana's opening match on Sunday at Ellis Park at 4pm.Bafana forward Terror Fanteni said his confidence was "high" after he scored the winning goal in the friendly against Poland at the weekend."It came at the right time for me. My confidence is high and I feel good going into the match on Sunday," Fanteni said. The Maccabi Haifa striker had been largely overlooked by coach Joel Santana in the last few matches but looks set to start alongside Bernard Parker in Bafana's attack. Veteran goalkeeper Brian Baloyi believes Bafana Bafana have more than a realistic chance of a semi-final place and said: "There is no reason we cannot get to the final. I have said it before that we can go all the way and we are determined to do just that."Baloyi has impressed the technical team after losing four kilograms during a hard four weeks in training camp"It has been a good camp so far. The spirit has been high and the players have responded."Baloyi said the 1-0 win over Poland had set the tone for Sunday's crunch clash against Iraq. The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper said: "We are growing as a team and bonding as a group."That, to me, is a very important part of the preparation for such a big event. Beating Poland was a great team effort not just from the players but the technical staff as well."Baloyi said that Bafana were ready to rise to the occasion."As players we know that this is a once in a lifetime chance for us to shine. Few of us will get this chance again and we aim to make the most of it."Baloyi said it was also important for the players to succeed in the Confederations Cup in order to set up a platform to build on ahead of the 2010 World Cup finals. At 35, Baloyi was selected for Santana's final 23-man squad because of his ability to raise team morale and dedication. Santana is likely to go with Kaizer Chiefs youngster Itumeleng Khune who turns 22 on June 20 - the day Bafana meet Spain in the third and final Group A fixture.
