News – Bentley Continental GT Speed
It was only a matter of time before VW’s ownership of Bentley started losing its imperial heritage. The new Bentley Continental GT Speed houses a VW based W12 motor originally founded on the Phaeton. The Phaeton looked a lot like a Passat released in Europe a couple of years ago it had great top end speed due its 12 cylinders. It is a unique saloon capable of competing with its German cousins from Bavaria & Stuttgart. The W12 recently appeared in the GTI concept that was doing the e-mail rounds (pic below) & most GTI fans were just blown away. I was quite surprised how naïve some of these okes were not realising the car was only a concept. Well some of that volksie heritage has now viralled its way into the new Bentley GT Speed. With the same W12 it’s capable of 320Km/h, impressive, but these cars are more about their classic appeal & heritage. Classic names like Bentley should remain authentically British. Anyways with the target market being US celebrities like P Diddy does it really matter, hows about some comments…

Motor: 6 litre W12 (that’s 2 VR6’s mated for W arrangement) with six speed auto gear box
Power: 440Kw & 750Nm
Performance: 0-100Km/h 4.5s Top Speed: 322Km/h.

Whats next a cut price Bentley with a 2.litre turbo motor for da Garreeb (AKA lay man),!! On the plus the GT Speed tries to set the benchmark in this category of super luxury saloons. It has fade resistant carbon ceramic brakes to last the life of the car, adjustable ride height according to road conditions & all wheel drive, along with all the interior bells & whistles.

Authentically Italian
Maserati’s latest GT edition looks brilliant. Set to compete quite well against the Jag XK & Mercedes S Class. Packed with Technology & driving aids, this Gran Tourismo packs a 4.2 litre V8 and around 320Kw with 440Nm torque. What a beautiful car!! Designed by the man behind the 599 GTB check it…

A Moto Cross Experience.
If you’ve never ridden a bike before it’s a skill you should definitely learn even if its just basic riding which is the category I fall into. You never know you might need to catch a CHORR one day and the only thing available might be a 2 wheeler. After taking a couple of months off from riding cos I caught a lekker “50 BUCKS” as the main man Rio would put it. Meaning? I almost broke my floppin leg bru!! Rio himself caught a lekker “20 BUCKS” this weekend sliding off one of the ramps. Anyways de man survived that one which is brilliant cos we probably gonna hit the track again this week - hehe. Learning to ride on a dirt track will make street riding seem like peanuts. On the track you gotta negotiate constant challenges being surface unevenness, bumps, ditches & sharp bends. And that’s just the flat tracks, the ramp tracks? Flippit bru I like my legs attached to my body.

That’s Rio recovering after vying 20 bucks down.

LEGEND – The Mk1 GTi / CTi
Haven’t done a legend in a while so lets go back to where it all began. Back when 8 Valves were still quick. The original kick ass hot hatch Mk1 GTi. The Mk1 embodied everything a hot hatch should – affordability, performance, light weight & youth appeal. I was recently checking out Clarksons Top 100 Cars, he hails the Mk1 GTI quite extensively & lines it up against a Mk4 GTI(20v Turbo) in a straight line dice. That’s 8 valve vs 20 valve, normally aspirated against forced induction. The standard MK1 ends up killing the Mk4. The first edition GTI featured a 1.6litre 8v back in 1977 & later updated to a 1.8 litre fuel injected motor producing 83Kw in the early 80’s. With a respectable 0-100Km/h of just under 8s, the secret behind its great performance was the excellent power to weight ratio. Check It …

Another local legend & successor to the Mk1 GTi was the Golf CTi. It sported the same 1.8 (8v) fuel injected motor, upgraded semi leather interior & is very sought after. Check it below - this Mayfair based maestro has many scalps to its repertoire including a certain red Mk4 Gti. Indeed Clarksons dice wasn’t doctored!! Hows dat floppin wheel.?

(For the protection and safety of all individual involved no names have been mentioned with regard to the above dice)

Drag Scene – 57’ Chevy Hot Rod
Big up to Leo “the Lion” who can be spotted in an IndyCab equipped with twin tigers for supplying this beaut of a hot rod. Its probably the only one of its kind on the floppin planet boosting eight turbos. This V8 Corvette LS1 aluminium block has a twister for every cylinder. With a safe turbo compression ratio of 8.5:1 courtesy of SLP forged aluminium pistons each cylinder is pounded by a Borg Warner Tripple K unit with combined boost from all eight turbos coming in at about 1bar. The car makes an impressive 543Kw with an astounding 920Nm @ 5000rpm.
Red Neck Heaven!!

Drunken Driving
Sent in by an oke who seems confused, drag scene is about cars making crazy horses, but this oke has contributed with an article about safety. He goes by the name of “Bra Laauw”, de man could be half Chinese I’ll say no more. Anyways it’s worth a mention - Nissan Japan has invented a system that detects whether a driver has had too much to drink. A sensor on the gear lever will be able to detect alcohol levels from hand perspiration & warn the driver. Seems very clever but what’s stopping the PEEDELAA’s from wearing gloves LAAUW?

Mr B – send them pimped out Mk1’s to nismaniac@gmail.com

  1. Big fish eat smaller fish british car manufacturers almost every last one of them went bankrupt. The german take over helped revive these classic names, why not share the technology, think about it!!

  4. what worries is me when icons like lamborghini end up with audi interiors. not only are these cars losing heritage but personality.

the germans should allow these okes to engineer their own cars.
