ANOUNCEMENT

This is a good day for me...Del Piero has been recognised. And rightly so. Unfortunately Del failed to shine on the International Stage although he played a decisive role in the World Cup. But then again what did Henry do on the international Stage. Jhon Barnes, Totti, Rooney. But they still class. The Son of Turin deserves this. Even through the Calciopoli Scandal he rose to the occasion and commanded the troops like a true Captain. I can go on for ever , But this Gentleman of football deserves this award. From a Humanitarian perspective as well as a Sporting perspective. THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGICAL SON

Well Done Del Piero

The Golden Foot award is handed out by the World Champions Club in Monaco every year, rewarding the best combination of personal and team achievement amid players over the age of 29.
Another difference (apart from the lower limit for the age), is that a list of ten names is put to vote, and it is the public that selects the winner.
As a result, some rather unconventional achievements are rewarded, and some emotional aspects of the game also considered.
The 2007 award has been won by Del Piero for inspiring Juventus back into Serie A in style despite being handicapped by a points penalty.
Roberto Carlos came in second for winning the La Liga trophy in his farewell season with Real Madrid, David Beckham coming in third for similar reasons.
AC Milan skipper Paolo Maldini came in fourth, for lifting yet another Champions League trophy, and was followed by the likes of Luis Figo and Thierry Henry.
Fabio Cannavaro, Cafu, Ryan Giggs and Raul were the others in the list.
This is the fifth edition of the award, and the previous winners are Roberto Baggio, Pavel Nedved, Andriy Shevchenko and Ronaldo, making Serie A's domination complete.

And look at the competition he was up against

Alessandro "Swoosh" Piero
