The RWC 2007, has thrown up a few upsets. The last round of pool games saw Ireland and Wales, 2 traditional giants of the game being sent home early. Wales going down to Fiji was a huge shock. The likes of Gareth Edwards, JPR Williams etc, legends of Welsh rugby must be burning at the sight of them leaving early. Ireland were bad all through the RWC and it was no surprise Argentina beat them. Elsewhere the big three southern hemisphere sides had no difficulties.
The boks were solid in the 2nd half against the USA. The 1st half had a few problem areas. What about that Zimbabwean dood, Ngwenya playing for the yanks he skinned Habana for pace. Awesome to see! With the upsets it has meant the boks half of the draw for semis and quarters has become very easy. The big guns are all in the other half and the boks could not have asked for a better route to the final.
AUS v ENGLAND
England has gotten better as the tournament has progressed. They will give the ausies real trouble in the scrums. They will be competitive in the forwards and they have Wilkinson who is lethal with the boot who will punish any penalties. Aus don’t have Larkham who is injured but Barrick Barnes has been a decent replacement. In the backs the ausies have class from 11 to 15 and this is where they will outplay the English.
Prediction: ausies by 5 to 10 points
NZ v FRANCE
On form the All blacks should be too strong but the French at home in a world cup means its not that easy to call. The French have looked better as the tournament has gone on. At home with the likes of Chabal giving 110% its will be tough for the blacks. For the blacks the big time has arrived, Henry has played with his squad for the last 2 years. Now he must pick his 1st choice team? Does he know who his best 15 are? He will have dilemma’s at inside and outside center, fullback and wing as to who to leave out! In the forwards they are settled. Added to this is the all black choking tag. They have been like the SA cricket team at world cups in the past! Remember 1999 will we see a repeat? It tough to call!
Prediction: All blacks
SA v FIJI
The boks path has been made easy. They should beat fiji 9 out of ten times! It’s a world cup ¼ so fiji will be pumped. We got to play it tight early on, get the penalties and build a lead, Fiji will want to play an open game but we got to make it tight and structured. We don’t want to have those big Fijian runners running at us. We could have a repeat of Tonga if we allow that.
Prediction: boks by 25 points
SCOTLAND v ARGENTINA
The argentines have been a class act. Hernandez the flyhalf is awesome. Scotland were thrashed by NZ and almost lost to the Azurri. Cant see alot wrong with the argentine team.
PREDICTION: argentina by 10 points.
