The Flowers of Manchester Will Never Be Forgotten"
This must be a special day for the MANCS. The day Busbys babes went down. Dunno, I hear the old men of the era saying that Busbys babes were class. Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes. Its a helava thing to see your whole team perish in front of your eyes and the club going on to be the most successful in Europe today. its no easy Feat. I thought its apt to pay TRIBUTE TO BUSBYS BABES and Sir Matt Busby. I dont like the MANCS but Busby is a LEGEND OF FOOTBALL and today he shook the BLOG.Why? His whole team perished.Imagine the rebuilding process. Its a hellava and sombre thing.
Good on ya Sir Matt....And good for football. Like Sir Alex said..It takes special people
Below is an article I extracted from goal.com
"We Owe It All To Busby, Says Ferguson On this the day marking the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster, Sir Alex Ferguson has credited Sir Matt Busby with laying the foundations that made it possible for Manchester United to become the best supported club in the world.
Despite having come so close to losing his own life as a result of the crash which claimed eight of his players, Busby recovered to build a new side around Munich survivors including Harry Gregg, Bobby Charlton and Bill Foulkes, which went on to become even more successful than its previous incarnation. 27 May. The epoch of his achievement came on May 27, 1968, when his team lifted the European Cup, en route to him becoming the longest serving manager in Manchester United history. “It takes special people to do what he did, to come through that and carry on managing," said Ferguson reverently. "I think if he had retired there and then, people would have understood, with all the emotions of dealing with footballers, so it tells you about what sort of character he was and the sort of steel that he had.“What we see today has all its foundations back in those days, particularly in the way it was done with the young players.”That brings on the saddest part, all these young players who lost their lives before they had started to really enjoy their football.”Duncan Edwards, 21, Eddie Colman, David Pegg, just young lads starting their careers and it was a terrible tragedy."From there on, the romance has built, purely because of the way Matt rebuilt the team and won the European Cup in 1968. He did it the right way and in the final itself, eight or nine of them were produced by the club and that's an amazing feat."That created the romance we see today, the affection throughout the world, because we play the right way."The club has always played the right way. It's always had entertaining, attacking footballers but when it comes to February 6, 50 years on, it's going to be an emotional day around this place. It will be felt by everyone."

I rememeber a fan saying when UTD WON THE TREBLE. His words in a nutshell were " If you see that last 5 minutes in Spain, You will clearly see that it was not 11 Manchester Utd players on the pitch it was 22. Bobby Charlton was in midfield.Duncan Edwards was there and so too was Tommy Taylor. The Munich Ghosts were helping our boys in the most pulsating 5 minutes of any European Game"

"The Flowers of Manchester"
ReplyDeleteOne cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,
Eight great football stalwarts conceded victory,
Eight men will never play again who met destruction there,
The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester
Matt Busby's boys were flying, returning from Belgrade,
This great United family, all masters of their trade,
The pilot of the aircraft, the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times they tried to take off and twice turned back again.
The third time down the runaway disaster followed close,
There was slush upon that runaway and the aircraft never rose,
It ploughed into the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned.
And eight of the team were killed as the blazing wreckage burned.
Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor who were capped for England's side.
And Ireland's Billy Whelan and England's Geoff Bent died,
Mark Jones and Eddie Colman, and David Pegg also,
They all lost their lives as it ploughed on through the snow.
Big Duncan he went too, with an injury to his brain,
And Ireland's brave Jack Blanchflower will never play again,
The great Matt Busby lay there, the father of his team
Three long months passed by before he saw his team again.
The trainer, coach and secretary, and a member of the crew,
Also eight sporting journalists who with United flew,
and one of them Big Swifty, who we will ne'er forget,
the finest English 'keeper that ever graced the net.
Oh, England's finest football team its record truly great,
its proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate.
Eight men will never play again, who met destruction there,
the flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester
swoosh, thanks for the brilliant video.
ReplyDeletewho knows what united would have been had this disaster not occured.
