Firstly, sorry my mishap yesterday for the predictions.. I only saw the tree up until the semis.. To err is human.. Back to the business..Last nights late game was an epic.. Cameroon 3 - Tunisia 2... And a showdown with the hosts has been set up.. Cameroon took a 2 goal lead through Mbia and Geremi but the Tunisians pulled one back and 9 minutes from time got the equaliser to send the game into extra time. However Cameroon through Mbia scored within 2 minutes of that time and managed to hold on for a results. Eto was also lucky not too get red carded in the match..In the nights earlier match Egypt ended Angola's dream run by beating them 2-1 in an empty stadium.. I think lower rated PSL sides get more crowd than that match. Anyways the holders are still on course to retain the title ut a tiny problem of Ivory Coast stand in their way to the final.. That match ought to be a classic.. However the Agolans can go home holding their heads up high.. They proved Africa wrong and are emering as a powerhouse.. The United recruit once again getting on the scoresheet.. Is he to be the next Adebayor, Kanu.. Or is he to follow in the footsteps of Diouf (at liverpool) and Fortune (at united).. We'll wait and see..So the semis see Cameroon play the hosts Ghana and reigning champs Egypt play Ivory Coast in what will hope to be 2 epic clashes..I personally think the Ivorians have the depth and class to take it, but u cant write off the Pharoas.. On their day they magical.. And will M Zidan be fit in time.. Cameroon have a daunting task of beating the hosts with 60 odd thousand behind them.. My money will be on Ghana but its semi's so its what ever happens on your day.. (reminds me of those Azd vs Real Lesco WFA knock out games)

Inside the Theatre
Ryan Giggs recently wrote for Red View looking ahead to the Champs League game v Lyon. Let’s see what he had to say:
Captains Word: ‘WE'RE EQUIPPED FOR ALL COMPETITIONS
The Champions League games against Lyon will be tough – they’ve won the French league for the last six years in a row so they’ve got plenty of experience in Europe. Perhaps they haven’t got the players they had a few years ago but it will be a difficult tie, no doubt, especially over there. The Stade Garland is a hard place to go to.

The main thing for us is we feel better prepared to compete on all fronts this season. I think the attitude and temperament of the players who we’ve brought in suit the European game. I don’t think playing in the Champions League will faze them, it hasn’t done so far. Hopefully they will help us to go further this year.
We were down to the bare bones when we faced a very good Milan team in last year's semi-final - we were playing the last few months of the season with really only 13 or 14 players. Hopefully we can go into the run-in this time with 20 players so the manager will be able to freshen things up and we can cope better with any injuries.
Milan’s main aim was to win the Champions League while we were probably split on which was the better trophy to win because a lot of our players hadn’t won the Premier League before. This year we’ll hopefully be wiser for last year and the players who experienced that disappointment in Milan will be helped by it.’

Ron the DON after his bullet against Portsmouth, & the rising star Manucho after his rocket against Egypt.
Prospects
Manucho off to Panathinaikos
The promising Angolan will be loaned out to the Greeks till the end of the season. This is an interesting development for the Angolan who will at least get some first team football until his UK work permit gets sorted by the end of the season. Hopefully we will see the African in action next season at OT. His wonder strike against Egypt last night is probably goal of the tournament so far. The Egyptians had the help of the ref and a lot of luck as MANUcho’s boys bowed out.
Ron Pay Increase
Ronaldo is being lined up for a huge pay increase after SAF promised the DON a reward if he hits 30 goals this season. A target which now seems highly likely with Ron sitting on 24 goals. The proposed new deal will make him the highest paid player in the Premiership at 140K a week, that’s Sterling £. Hopefully this will deter any counter offers from the Spanish giants. The 23 year olds current deal keeps him at the Theatre till 2012.
Indian Deal
United have signed a £50 million pound deal with Indian company Jump Games who will produce a series of football themed games that will be distributed in India & globally. The deal will go a long way in increasing Uniteds revenue & fan base in India.

Last Game v Spurs (1-1)
We got out of jail here. Spurs were no doubt the better team in the first half, they pressured us, kept the ball well & were creative in attack with Berbatov opening the scoring. Fergie came out blasting the ref for branding seven yellow cards & consequently a 25 thousand pound fine for MANU. Scholes & Hargo failed to control the midfield, it just looked like neither one could decide who should play the holding role. However Anderson made a real impact after coming on for Hargo The ref was inconsistent at times but thankfully we dominated the last 25 minutes of this game and were rewarded with an equalizer courtesy Tevez from an Anderson corner.

And so this historic derby draws closer commemorating the Munich disaster. Lookout for the 58’ replica kit, that’s gonna be special!!. We need all three points as the Goons pulled 2 points clear last week & are now firmly on course for the title, we cannot afford to slip up.

Liverpool vs Sunderland
Crouch leaps to a Jamie Carragher cross to make it 1-0
Captain Steven Gerrard makes it 3-0 from the penalty spot
Well, Liverpool finally register their 1st victory of 2008 against Sunderland with a 3-0 win, and fans breathe a sigh of relief. But does a victory mean that all is back on track ? Certainly not. Liverpool simply did not play football in the first half of the game, and it was looking to be ANOTHER Draw. I’d like to think Rafa was shouting the hell out of his team, though I’m pretty sure he preferred to take out his frustration on the Chalkboard. Some of Rafa’s selections and positioning of players on the night were strange to say the least. Lucas Leiva, a central midfielder played on the left wing. Carragher, who played at right back under Houllier, must have felt a strange case of Déjà vu when the team selection was announced one hour before the game. Players only now if they are playing and where they are playing when the team sheet is handed out an hour before the game. Carra did quite well, and he even taught Jermaine Pennant how to cross a ball when he put in a good ball from the right flank to find Peter Crouch’s head for the opener.
Mascherano was at his fighting best, but still lacks any attacking threat and defenders have worked him out. Lay off him, give him space, he isn’t going to go anywhere…usually a couple steps forward, then a sideward or back pass. Another thing when Mascherano plays, for some odd reason , Gerrard plays deep and well, that doesn’t do any good. Liverpool need Gerrard to maraud forward, spraying passes all over the place, finishing off moves that he starts. But, once again he went into his shell and hid from the ball for most of the game. Aurelio taking over Riise’s job as being utterly putrid, was duly subbed at half time.

Yes, another out of position subsitition, Steve Finnan playing at left back. You get the feeling Rafa wants his players to be able to play all round the park, but, fans would rather have players being Masters of one position rather than mediocre all rounders. The biggest plus for Liverpool was that KUYT DIDN’T START. Somehow you had the feeling we were going to win the moment his name was missing from the starting
eleven. Its a pity Rafa brought him on towards the end, so he might still not think he is as crap as he really is, just a tactical cnage by Benitez. Liverpool fans are gatvol of his total lack of any ball control, ball skills, and basic predatory instincts associated with any decent striker. Luckily Peter Crouch scored again so probably he will maintain his place for his efforts. I say probably because with Rafa’s Rotation, no one will ever know. Torres scores again, so he continues his wonderful track record in his opening season at Anfield. Chelsea on Sunday, it was a good time to start turning the tide.

I had the priviledge of meeting Sean Pollock and taking a photo with him. A true gentleman indeed. On and Off the field Pollock has been a true professional. I remember watching him bat a few times and smashing bowlers out of the park. His bowling was consistent and it will be difficult to emulate Pollys figures.Polly was class and will be sorely missed. Goodbye Sean Polllock.SA Cricket will miss you.
QUOTE FOR THE SUPER TUESDAY
I met Cisse whoe was irate after the los against the hammers. He said Quote me
"JOSE MOURINHO WILL BE AT ANFIELD IN JUNE. ITS A DONE DEAL.THE PAPERWORK IS GOING THROUGH." Cisse was so confident that he said quote me on line for all to see.
Cisse told me years ago that Djibrill Cisse will come to Anfield and he did. Will Jose come ........................

Yeah Swoosh when you hit the ball it flies and it's on target no matter how you hit it.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool should look at playing with this ball then. Maybe Dirk Kuyt will even score with this ball.
Swoosh you need to learn to give credit where it's due, that was a fantastic strike by Manucho.
Disappointing to see them go out, they were an entertaing team.
Considering the result yesterday though I have to admit SA have improved. Angola gave the Egyptians a tough time and Egypt are no push overs.
But we still lack a true quality player that the likes of Egypt, Cameroon and Ivory Coast have. Even Ghana and Nigeria fall in that category. They have stars that play in Europe and we lack players of that calibre. Benni has a dik kop, so he doesn't count.
