A while back on 702 they had a phone in.There was a toppie that said that he had the priviledge of watching every major game since 1970. He said he watched World Cups,European Championships, Libatedores, League games,Champions League games. he watched everyone from Pele,Garincha,Maradona, Totti, Ronaldo,Ronaldinho but he said what this man does with a football is breathtaking, Its something else, Its unfathomable, its the pinnacle and ultimate accolade and dire priviledge for him to have watched such a man LIVE in the modern game of football. Things like this makes me want to take this blog to the next dimension. In Football there are legends but this man is a cut above the rest..........

Maradonna....Nobody had skill and ball control like him....But I get the feeling that C.Ronaldo will equal him.

ReplyDeleteGeorge Best was brilliant, but Zidane has achieved much more in his career. World Champion and European Champion with France.
Champions League winner with Madrid, 2 Italian Serie A titles with Juve, Spanish La Liga title with Madrid. Added to that 3 Fifa World Footballer of ther Year awards.
Come now guys he never succumbed to booze and drugs and that makes him the Master above even Diego Armando Maradonna, who was a fantastic footballer but is no role model. Zidane achieved everything Maradonna has.
Ronaldo has a long way to go to even emulate Zidane let alone surpass the great man. So if and when that happens Zidane still remains the greatest.

I bought a United video a long time ago called Ryan & George. back in the days of VHS, trust me shakes in terms of pure dribbling ability, no one can touch george best. When asked about the greatest goal he ever scored they showed a clip of a situation where he dribbled about 6 players in the 18 yard area before sticking it in.

I saw that goal Chaval, and I don't argue that he wasn't brilliant. But Zidane played in an era I was privileged enough to witness, while all you have of Best are videos of his ability.
ReplyDeleteThere's more to attaining legendary status then just pure ability and I think Zidane outshines best on all fronts. I must admit I am being very biased also.
