Yuseless Jaaskelaainen gifts Gerrard a goal and is upset he didn’t wash the butter

Ryan Babel scores well deserved goal

Aurelio hits a superb volley to make it 3

Dirk Kuyt auditioning for Dopey in The Snow white ballet

Liverpool visited the Reebok stadium on Sunday with a strange statistic at the forefront of their minds. The Reds have not won at the Reebok since 2002, and Stevie and Co were eager to overcome this psychological hurdle. And they were helped when Steven Gerrard hit and hoped for the best, and well saw the worst of Jussi Jaaskelaainen. He got down too early and the ball hit him on his forehead, flew within a metre of the goal line, and spun back into net. Gerrard’s hand over mouth celebration mocked the Bolton keeper’s moemish, and it all assisted in alleviating the pressure on Liverpool to score the early goal. But, as has been a habit of the reds this season so far, the players seem content with hanging on to one goal, and it has proved to be our undoing more often then not. It also proves the lack of a killing winning mentality amongst the players, and this is one of the reasons Gerrard was upset last week. Luckily we had Ryan Babel on the field ,our
talented Dutchman. He was a constant threat on the left hand side, and his weaving and turning pass the Bolton right back forced the Manager to make a change after 42 minutes because clearly he was being embarrassed. Babel was duly rewarded for his fine display with a fine goal. After Dirk Kuyt mistakenly hit a shot on target (he doesn’t mean to trouble the keeper) the ball fell to babel he finished with class. A young Henry in the making, that’s for sure. Because of the lack of the quality in depth, it now seems Rafa has a difficulty keeping all the bad apples out of the bag. Fabio Aurelio is keeping Riise out of the team, but we still need to get someone to keep Kuyt out of the starting eleven. Nando’s should use him in their adverts because he is, in all honestly, a headless chicken disguised as a footballer. At one stage, the clown found himself behind Hyppia and Skyrtel. I think he misunderstood Rafa’s instructions “Get behind the defence” – Not ours you mugg!
Fabio Aurelio has done enough to keep Riise out of the team, but it can’t be that difficult, defend properly and have the ability to pass to one of your team mates. Aurelio scored a classy goal, won that Torres would have been proud of. That reminds me, our star striker hardly got a chance for all the time he was on, and that is, in part to Dirk Kuyt not doing his job as a second striker. In one instance, it was Torres heading on for Gerrard who turn the ball back for a player to come and hit it,but our “hard working” (haha) striker wanted to arrive late in the box , but took the wrong off ramp to the box. I hope he goes at the end of this season, well,me and millions of Liverpool fans across the globe. Now watch him score the winner against West Ham on Wednesday night !

THEATER OF DREAMS

By LAAL CHAVEL (RED RICE)

Inside the Theatre
Ex United Hero Sheringham to Retire
“Oh Teddy Teddy” the famous words of ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley as Sheringham equalized against Bayern in the 99 Champions League Final., what a season it was for Sheringham who hardly won any silverware before joining United. The following season Sheringham had another blinder as United retained the League & he achieved personal honors voted player of the season from the PFA & football writers. The former United man who is a legend of English football had one of the most intelligent footballing brains. His aerial ability & creative play was absolutely inspiring. His link up play with Scholes as they opened scoring for United against the Geordies in the 99-00 FA Cup highlighted his vision, silky skills & world class striking ability. His striking partnership with Solskjaer described as the “SAS” will go down as United Legend. Jurgen Klinsmann who partnered Sheringham during his time at Spurs once commented that Sheringham was the most intelligent striking partner he had ever played with. Sheri spent the greatest part of his career at United picking up 3 Premier League titles, an FA CUP medal, the Champions League & the World Club Cup At 41 Sheringham now apply’s his trade with Championship side Colchester hoping to help them retain championship status before retiring at the end of the season. He will always be remembered as part of the Treble Legends.

Prospects
Life after Edwin
When Schmeical retired United’s keeper crisis continued for a few seasons & that was a sorry situation cos if it wasn’t for the some crucial keeper errors we would have won a lot more silver ware. Taibi was an embarrassment, Barthez dared fate, Howard’s blunder against Porto possibly cost us another Champs League. Van Der Sar will continue for a at least another season but thinking long term will Uniteds current reserve keepers Kuszak & recently injury recovered Ben Foster fit the bill? Foster who was being touted as England’s new number one sadly picked up a cruciate ligament injury & hasn’t had the chance of fighting for his United place since returning from Watford. Uniteds Chief scout Martin Ferguson is currently keeping an eye on Barc’a Cameroon international Carlos Kameni who reportedly prefers a move to the premiership.
Benzema
The rumors continue, SAF has described him as a great player, The Lyon officials are un happy & now secret agent Saha has been assigned to sway some decisions at international duty.

Games
Last Game v Fulham (3-0)
United shuffled the pack for this game & its encouraging to see that rotation at United works well. Nani’s form of late has been very good. His trickery , pace & direct attacking style adds another dimension when we need to freshen things up. With Hargo’s clever free-kick means we have another dead ball specialist in the team. Ji Sung Park has quietly & effectively gone about his business the past few weeks. His strongest position is still wide left whipping in inch perfect crosses. His headed goal will undoubtedly add to his confidence. More importantly the Gunners dropped another 2 points & now its time to take charge Fergies comments on the game:
" We switched the team around and gave Rooney and Ronaldo a break. So it is a good day for us.
You've got to have faith in your squad. You've got to trust your players. That's why we've brought them here. Look at the ones we've left out. Carrick, Giggs and Vidic would get a game for any “

Next Game vs Lyon (Tonight – SS3 21:30)
All eyes at the Theatre, a goalless draw will be enough but I doubt that will be the scoreline. United will attack, Lyon will sit back, wait patiently & try to throw a sucker punch on the counter. Should be very entertaining.

United vs Portsmouth FA Cup Q/F – Sat 8 Mar-08 (14:45 SS3)
Should be a cracker as the last 8 dream of Wembley

SUPER 14 UPDATE
By a babe called ZK

Second post and I'm wondering why I took on this job… (Anyone with any clue to that answer please let me know).

SO again another sad weekend for SA teams but on my side it was "bloody brilliant".
Couldn't handle watching the last 15min of the Shark match especially since we were 15 -10 behind but my word those last four minutes took the cake (and they ate it :P). So as for last years repeat I will say it again – SA teams this year SUCK but I have hope as it's early in the season. (Yes a little optimism if I dare).
The Sharks played an awful game (and yes I can criticize my team in the hope that they will improve). Handling errors, overturns missed tackles cost us dearly in the first 70minutes of the game. Thrown punches, off the ball tackles and a really dirty affair is what sums up the Bulls, Sharks match. Last minute glory can be added to that but I would have to say that indeed was the silliest lapse in concentration by the Bulls while they were in the lead.
My quote of the day by Sharks coach Dick Muir: "It was a brilliant win. It's not easy going to Loftus and I'm chuffed to come away with a win and a bonus point. But for an hour we did not exactly cover ourselves with glory and that's a worry."

Rory Kockott

A sad farewell to Johan Ackermann. Ending on a high after a sin-binning the impressive lock will be much missed.

Final Results: Bulls 15 – 29 Sharks

Well the Blues have done it again. Another win on South African soil and really only next week's match against the Sharks will let us know if ANY South African teams have it in them to challenge the New Zealanders. Especially if we want any hope of making sure the Super 14 cup stays in SA. The final score line but does not do justice to the poor Cheetahs. They put up a fight that may scare the rest of the South African teams into submission. Credit to the Cheetahs for picking up a bonus point with four tries….YES they scored FOUR TRIES against the BLUES.
(Who would have thought!)
[By the way a sublime try by Joe Rocokoco side stepping most of the Cheetah team.]
Final Results: Cheetahs 26 - 50 Blues

The Lions lost barely to the Western Forces. Lions going into half-time were leading by one point, but in the end Forces were the winners…Need I say more *sigh*
Final Results: Lions 16 – 18 Force

A white wash drumming of the Stormers does not really reflect the actual play but hey it's the scoreline that counts. Crusaders leave SA unbeaten and the Stormers languish at the bottom of the Super14 log.
Final Results: Stormers 0 - 22 Crusaders

Freddie Trueman & Raman Subba RowFearsome English fast bowler Fred Trueman extraced an edge from the batsman, which flew straight into the hands of Raman Subba Row at first slip. The ball however went right between Row's legs to the third man boundary. Fred didn't say a word. At the end of the over, Row ambled past Trueman and apologised sheepishly. "Sorry Fred. I should've kept my legs together". Trueman retorted in classic fashion "Not you, son. Your mother should've!"

  1. Oh come on Swoosh. What a crap match to watch. United will do the business, and grind out an unimpressive nil nil draw. No point watching.

But the Milan VS Arsenal game is the one to really watch. Absolutely EVERYTHING to play for. Nil Nil Aggregate, making Arsenal very very lethal on the counter. But Milan HAVE to get a goal. They cant just put up the Italian fortress. I would love to see Arsenal score first, just to see exactly what Milan are made of.

I rate the 1st round between Milan & Arsenal as one the best scoreless games ever!!!

  5. Yeah Swoosh, I'm already in mourning. LOL

If we not careful and don't get Rijkaard next season we stand a very good chance of turning into the Liverpool of Serie A. I was happy with the 4th position we had a week ago, but now things are looking very ominous. Two draws and 5th spot.

But then to put things into perspective, we missing our talisman. Kaka is injured and wont play tonite. Also Seedorf is out now and with Ronaldo out we relying heavily on Pato. Thats alot on a young man's shoulders.

With a crap keeper and an aging defence and no real attacking impetus, it's a weakened and wounded Milan tonite I'm afraid and I hold little hope for us. Whats encouraging is that the gunners are playing kak as well and I'm hoping Pirlo can inspire us tonite, he has the ability to but hasn't been consistant, but then again niether has anyone else including Kaka. I hate the oake, but I hope Pippo plays tonite, he's goalscoring record alone says it makes sense.

What we do have is Maldini and Gattuso, the heart and soul of Milan. Maldini was brilliant at the Emirates, defying his age.
Milan are going to look for a goal on the counter, the Ancelotti way I'm afraid and if they get it defend that lead. That has been the Milan of 2007/08. If they get through Arsenal they gonna be in the mood for the remainder of the tourney and tough to stop I feel. It's all against us tonite, no away goal, no star player and no champs league next season if we get knocked out.

United won't play for the 0-0. I have a feeling that this game is going to be more exciting. Having rested both Ron and Roon I have a feeling SAF will go for the jugular and try to kill the game off early and that should make it exciting either way. Benzema is a real danger and Govu isnt that bad either.

Barca vs Celtic is gonna be one sided I think. Celtic don't have an away record in Europe to be proud of. At home yes they are good, away they play kak. Barca are gonna come out all guns blazing after losing this weekend.

  6. The SA teams are absolutely shocking. Come May I won't be surprised to see 4 of the 5 occupying the bottom 4 places. The Sharks are our only decent hope.

Azee, i can't understand how the Lions persist with Strydom at flyhalf, the man is useless, almost in the class of Kuyt!

Killa, your Bulls are living in the 40's. Their style of play went out with the Dinosaurs. But do you have tickets for the Lions vs the Bulls on friday?

The most exciting CL game of this round will be Sevilla vs Fenerbache.. 2 attack minded teams who have nothing to lose but go at each other for 90 minutes.

He's back for Fridays game tho.. Will check on the tickets by wed/thurs for you.. The Gauteng derby is one these okes at work smak to watch..

Shakes - U okes have king PIPPO.. Nothing to worry about..

    Mini - I see u screaming for ice-cream there.. "ola" ..

ZK - Barca at home in Europe are solid (apart from containing Bellamy and Riise).. I doubt Celtic will provide an upset..

Drogba - I totally agree with u.. The okes here are writing CHELSKI off.. But writing a chelski column is the same as reading WWE.com... Cos all they do is fight there..

Now Danielle De Rossi. That Boy as a midfelder is class, Gatusso, Class, Pirlo Class. Patrick Viera, Class, Keane, Class.

  23. What does make a lad World Class. Is it skill, consistancy, accolades. I was at Rashid Cassim now and as usual the lads were pasting me on how K4$k Del Piero is. Lets see Del Piero, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WINNER, WON MANY A SCUDETTI, WON THE WORLD CUP, TOOK JUVE TO SERIE A, TERRORISES DEFENDERS, MAGICAL SKILL.

NOW IS TAHT NOT WORLD CLASS.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Swoosh, where do you get 38m from, are you counting in Zim dollars?

You fail to understand 1 simple fact and that is that Spurs will get 18m for Carrick should United win something like 3 league titles, 2 Champions Leagues and reach the semi's of the CL on 3 occassions. And all within a space of 5 years.

Now obviously if we do achieve this feat while Carrick is at United not a single person in the world will have any problems paying 18m for Carrick or even
    38m.

    COZ HE'S WORTH IT!

BTW how can you even compare Masch to Carrick. Even Ejaz will agree with me that Masch offers nothing going forward but is solid as a holding midfielder. Carrick is the total opposite.

Hargreaves 17m, Masch 17m - Apples with apples but now tell me who's got the better footballer!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Get real ABR, the 2 midfielders in Uniteds tactical setup have very distinct roles. One protects the back 4 & the other spreads the ball in a more attacking creative role. Neither can make each other look good, you gotta do your job.

Carrick has looked even better this season partnered with Anderson.

  29. Swoosh I have the same feeling. Pirlo is our creative hope tonite without Kaka and Seedorf and he hasn't exactly been lighting up the San Siro.

Maybe that will hasten the departure of Ancelotti but I still want them to win.

Come now Maschereno is woeful. He may be a good holding midfielder but his passing is terrible. He often overhits passes and very rarely picks out a teammate. Even David Batty was a better passer of the ball. With that lack of passing ability is why alot of the fools attacking impetus is lost and that explains why so many draws.

Count the number of misplaced passes he makes in a game and you will see just how frustrating it is wathcing the guy.

And Swoosh where you getting the 38 million figure from?
