WEEKLY SOCCER ROUND UP

The Italian countryside around the Bay of Naples, called Campania, has always been noted for its beauty. In the days of the Roman Empire, its blue skies and magnificent scenery led many wealthy Romans to build villas there. The old and prosperous cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the quiet little town of Stabiae were among the many local summer resorts. On Aug. 24, AD 79, these towns were destroyed, and great stretches of the countryside were laid waste.
On that morning the great volcano Mount Vesuvius began to belch forth steam, gases, lava, and flames. Then began a hail of pumice stones up to 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) in diameter, followed by a torrent of white ashes. For nearly two days white ashes fell like snow on the doomed cities.
Most of the people of the two cities escaped as the eruption began. Those who sought refuge in cellars were suffocated by stifling sulfur fumes or crushed under falling roofs. In Pompeii alone about 2,000 perished. Its usual population was probably about 20,000, but the city may have been crowded with summer visitors. The most famous casualty of the great eruption was Pliny the Elder. He was in command of the Roman fleet in the Bay of Naples and took ships across the bay to Stabiae in an unsuccessful attempt to rescue refugees.
When the cloud lifted it revealed widespread devastation. Herculaneum lay completely buried under more than 60 feet (18 meters) of mud and volcanic material. At Pompeii 8 to 10 feet (2 to 3 meters) of pumice and 6 or 7 feet more of ashes covered everything but the tops of buildings. So great was the alteration of the seacoast that Pompeii, which was a seaside town before the eruption, now lies far inland.

Now Centuries later, and on this blog the Volcano erupted again in Pompey, only this time the MANCS got POM' PED BY POMPEY. AND THE VOLCANO ERUPTED.

THEATER OF DREAMS
Ebie J phoned me on Saturday smirking and giggling. I knew it. We laughed and discussed the MANCS exit. I immediately sent out a chain sms to the MANCS. The Muggs were furious, Now lets discuss the TREBLE. What is the Treble. THE FA CUP, THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, AND THE LEAGUE. Now the MANCS will have no treble. But you know the MANCS, They responded by sending me profane messages like "SHUT THE F#4K UP, BARNSLEY MAYET". etc etc.
Perhaps the toppie was two complacent, he had a full strength team, I mean Carrick was playing.
Nevertherless and incredible feeling.
A wise man once said "THAT WHEN THE LAAKRIE (STICK) HITS YOU, IT MAKES NO NOISE. And for all the punishment they dished us, the Stick is Hitting.
SULOMAN "F3$KEN" MONTARI is what I told them. The MANCS kept on saying how unlucky they were and that the ball is round and stuff like that.
BUT its the greatest feeling to have witnessed the eruption of POMPEY in 2008.

FROM THE KOP END
I just got some breaking news from Ejaz

Liverpool's joint owner, George Gillett, has agreed to sell 49 per cent of the club to Dubai International Capital in a deal worth up to £170 million, it was claimed yesterday.
According to Amanda Staveley, head of PCP Capital Partners, the private equity firm handling negotiations on behalf of DIC, Gillett agreed the deal in principle late on Friday.

Walking alone? George Gillett (left) is reported to have agreed to sell 49 per cent of his stake to DIC
"The legal documents have yet to be signed, but we're really pleased," said Staveley. "Of course we want to own Liverpool outright but this large stake is a great start."
DIC now need to agree on a partnership with Gillett's co-chairman and fellow American, Tom Hicks, who has made it clear he has no intention of giving up his control of Anfield.
Despite Hicks' angry attack on Staveley on Saturday, in which he accused the financier of leaking private correspondence to this newspaper, he has not ruled out the possibility of a key meeting with DIC executives in Dubai today.
His son, Mack, and two senior Hicks Holdings executives, Casey Shilts and Roy Bailey, had already scheduled unrelated meetings in Dubai this week to discuss a property deal and both DIC and a spokesman for Hicks confirmed last night that talks on the future of Liverpool were likely to take place over the next few days.

According to the deal, agreed in outline last week, Hicks would take one per cent off Gillett to give him a majority holding of 51 per cent. DIC would then control the other 49 per cent.

On the whole though Kop owes...What a feeling to see a consistant Liverpool. Why coudnt we do it earlier. Those 5 draws were ten points in the bag. Torres is class, Stevie G is on fire.

  2. the theory of the klippa was in full force. Clearly the ref was paid by Pompey for the following reasons which defined the outcome of the game:
    1) Ronaldo was not given the penalty early on when he was clearly barged by Distin.
    2) Kuzschek was given a red card for a perceived foul when he was not the last man. See the replay and you will see Rooney on the line of the posts.
    3) Baros kicked Kuzschek in the head and was clearly not fouled yet the gave the penalty.
This clearly proves that the allegations against Harry Rednapp around match fixing and transfer sagas is true and the theory of teh klippa prevailed once again.
Good news of the weekend is that the Gooners lost 2 points which gives us a chance to go top of the pops.

Punisher - Wara wara blah blah.. As heartsore as it was when barnsley beat us we got over it and accepted it without whining and complaining.. U okes played k@k and lost.. Kla..

If ronaldo stops diving so much then maybe he wouldve got that penaly as i think it was a clear cut one.. He was reported to have said that his gonna change his style of play and stop dribbling cos the players and refs are victimising him.. Sounds like a sore loser to me..

Rio looked like himself in the poles - CLUELESS..

How could Chelski not play DROGBA ???

  9. united lost to premiership opposition, united had clear cut decisions that went against them & which impacted resulting in the loss.

against barnsley, you guys had the ref on your side & still lost.wa ha ha, a side in a lower divison!!

    now, who's more k@k ????

why would ronaldo wana change his style of play, when his dribbling skills make him the best & most lethal player in the world ?

rio would definately look clueless, cos he aint a goalkeeper.
how many players u know had to get into the poles straight away to face a penalty ??? at least he dived the right way, but you choose to call him clueless.

mini & takilla, it must be hard that you guys get lambasted week in & out cos your sides are k@k.

United are trailing Liverpool as the most successful English team of all time.

Which Liverpool supporter would wish United to catch them in titles and trophies....NONE...

So once again well done to the POMPEY for knocking United out...

I mean it`s a massive rivalry between two huge clubs...who clearly hate one another....United dont wanna see Liverpool winning titles...Do U?

Now only if those Gunner lighties get there acts together....

  12. Enjoy the Pompey victory scum coz it's the last time you'll be enjoying anything.

We didn't get the decisions but we should've buried them, we had enough chances to win the game and should have done so with or without the penalty.

But never fear the Irish Gunners are doing us proud so come May we'll see who's laughing!

Oh Mini and i look forward to about 2050 when Leeds are back in the PL? It's called the curse of Safraaz!

  19. Swoosh thats called the dreaded vote of confidence as the english call it. Almost everytime the chairman publicly assures his manager's job is safe, after a few weeks the guys gets sacked. I'm hoping after the season Ancelotti is gone. Also I hope Mourinho is not his replacement.

With Fiorentina losing the gap between us and 4th is 1 point. Hopefully we can close that and make Champs League next season.
The Champs League without Milan is like the FA Cup with only 1 prem team in it.

As for United I make no excuses, we had all the possesion, all the play but no goals to show for it. We should have killed the game off. It wasn't meant to be and no excuses, we just need to get on with it against Derby and Bolton next. We've been given a life line in the league and we need to take it. Penalty / no penalty, Ronaldo's wasn't given, and Pompey's was and thats football. You have to take the good with the bad.

I'm disappointed that you as a Leeds man don't know the story of Safraz. He was the Paki lad that your boys - Woodgate, Bowyer, Duberry and Smith bliksemed at a club. Your boys were in court for that 1.

Leeds are most definitely Yorkshire scum but it doesn't necessarily make all the players who played for them scum. They were scum while they were there but those that came to Old Trafford made ghusl and were cleansed.

  36. Hicks ends talks with Dubai group

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has ended negotiations with Dubai International Capital (DIC) over acquiring a 49% stake in the club.

DIC had earlier announced it was in advanced talks to buy a stake in the Anfield side.

But in a statement on the Liverpool website, Hicks said: "I have decided to terminate further discussions with DIC.

"I and my colleagues will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of the club."

Talks had been taking place between DIC and Hicks about how a joint relationship would work.

George Gillett, Hicks' co-owner, is understood to have agreed in principle to sell 49% of his 50% stake to DIC, and the other 1% to Hicks to give the Texan a controlling interest.

DIC have accepted that Hicks, co-owner of Kop Football (Holdings) Limited, will not sell his share in Liverpool in the near future, but would insist on a clause giving them first refusal to buy his stake.

Hicks added: "DIC made it clear that if they invested in the club, they would want it to be managed by committee.

"It is clear to me that such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the club or of the club's loyal and passionate supporters."

Hicks and fellow American Gillett took control in a deal worth £218.9m in February 2007. But their own relationship has broken down and the pair - Hicks in particular - have been the target for strong criticism from supporters.

It is believed Gillett is willing to sell but the situation is further complicated by an agreement between him and Hicks that means one cannot sell his share without the agreement of the other.

But BBC Radio 5 Live's football correspondent Jonathan Legard understands that DIC will not be deterred from their interest in Liverpool.

"DIC are not discouraged and the show will go on," said Legard. "There are plenty more twists and turns to come."
