The results were evident from the 1st game. Garrincha constantly teased and mesmorized opposition defences. He was the greatest ever dribbler the World has ever seen. Cutting and Sliding through defences with such ease. Garrincha was one of the stars of Brazil’s first World Cup success in 1958. His best performance was left for the final where his brilliance with the ball tormented the Swedish Defence leaving them clueless on many occasions. In 1962 Brazil defended their title with great success solely due to Garrincha’s Brilliance. Garrincha alone led Brazil to victory. His performances in against England in the quarterfinals and Chile in the semi-finals were breathtaking. He scored 2 goals in both of those games and dictated the game. There is no doubt that he was the Greatest Ever Right Winger the World has ever seen. In 1966 an ageing Garrincha helped Brazil to a victory over Bulgaria but ultimately Brazil departed the tournament in the first round.
After Pele, Garrincha is considered the greatest Brazilian player. Garrincha however had several birth defects which included a deformed spine, a bent right leg and a shorter left leg (6cm). A successful operation allowed him to pursue a career in football. It would be the fact that his left leg was shorter that assisted Garrincha in his football as it would throw many defenders off when he was on his many dribbling runs.
