Abramovich to Give Chelsea Away
Brian Rocksmonde 30 November 2006 13:51:47

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is said to have lost his football club in a card game last Sunday at Grosvenor Connoisseur Casino in London. According to a source in the casino security staff, the Chelsea Football Club was at stake in a poker game between Abramovich and some oil baron from Saudi Arabia whose name remains in secret. Under the gentleman's agreement, the Russian tycoon is to pass the club to the new owner by January 1, 2007 or pay off 300 million pounds to the lucky Arabian gambler. Abramovich, who is Russia's wealthiest man according to U.S. magazine Forbes, has spent about 240 million pounds on players since his 140 million pound takeover at Stamford Bridge in 2003. He has been certainly on the way to reforming the club. He allegedly intended to appoint Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko as the club's president. Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has even accused him of stifling the competitiveness of European football by spending on players and sky-high television rights deals. Now the future of both Chelsea and the international soccer remains unclear. But for Abramovich it may be simply a loss of the favourite toy, not a collapse. As well as investing in Chelsea, Abramovich, who is Governor of Chukotka, has injected much of his own money in building new homes and infrastructure for the previously impoverished region in Asian Russia. The Sunday Times once characterized Roman Abramovich as one of the world's most reckless and venturous businessmen. And up to a certain moment good luck was with him. Are gods now laughing at the Russian tycoon? His wife has reportedly begun divorce proceedings which could cost Abramovich half his vast fortune. Irina Abramovich is turning to the lawyers because of recent revelations about a romance between the Chelsea football club owner and a 23-year-old daughter of Russian billionaire Alexander Zhukov Well, this story may rate as Grosvenor Connoisseur's second best scandal this year. The first one one was at New Year's Eve, when a customer who usually spent around 50 pounds lost a reported 40,000 pounds. He lost his money then left the building and returned with a plastic bottle full of petrol. He emptied it over himself, spraying staff and gaming tables.

HENRY: I LOVE THE LIVERPOOL FANS Paul Rogers 22 September 2006
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has revealed his affection for Liverpool Football Club and the club's world famous supporters in an astonishing new interview.
Despite playing for one of Liverpool's biggest rivals, Anfield has always afforded the French international a warm reception in appreciation of his sublime skills and now it seems the feeling is mutual. The chance to see Henry play in the red of Liverpool rather than the red and white of Arsenal might have gone now but that hasn't stopped the striker admitting he's dreamt about what it would have been like to be one of the Kop's idols. "I could never play for another English club after spending so long at Arsenal but, maybe, if there could ever have been another team, it would be Liverpool," he said at the launch of 'Impact Art', a charity which looks after seriously ill young adults. "I say them because I would have loved to play with
Steven Gerrard and then also I love their fans. "There is something special about Anfield which is amazing and, when I see The Kop with their scarves in the air, singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone', that is awesome."

  1. Awesome news. I hope this deal is closed ASAP. For one, the Carlsberg logo will have to go and maybe get something SANHA approved.

And secondly, some much needed money into the new stadium and some big name players coming over to merseyside.

    It's long overdue.

  2. That could be great news for all you liverpool muggs. Should it come through you guys can buy big like chelsea, build a new 250bar stadium and hopefully CONTEST for league honours.

  3. Good news, I think.

How many teams in the premiership are currently English owned?

But Biggy I am glad to see that you have acknowledged that money makes a difference. In United's glory years they were the richest club in the world. I think there seems to be some link with having loads of cash and winning trophies.

Now Swoosh if teams are being taken over by foreign owners, what does that mean for the English players? It is now becoming a world league and not just an English one.

  5. to offside,

in uniteds glory years more than half the squad came through the youth team, they were not bought! the likes of the nevilles, scholes butt , giggs, beckham were all home grown. cantona was a shrewd buy as he was risky given his track record. it was only after the initial succes that the culb could splash out on the ferdinands, carricks, coles, van nis telroy etc.

i still say money is no gaurantee to succes. u still need astute management?

  6. I agree with Azee, money is no guarantee to success but management and a manager are the most important, look at chelsea when ranieri was there. But money goes a f$#ken long way, the amount of depth chelsea have in their squad is ridiculous and on their bench sits players who would walk into most teams in the world

Money goes along way but no guarantee of success

Imagine what a massive squad liverpool will need with rafa and his rotation policies?

  7. Offside,
Yes Man U did have money, but so did the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs and other English clubs. It was a fair transfer market. Our only real big buy at the time was Andy Cole. it was never a case of United getting any player they want. Like Azee said, our youth system played a huge part in our success. Also take nothing away from Fergie. He was and still is a great manager. Money does help, but it doesn't win you titles. Look at Real, perfect example.Where the money makes a huge differnce is when you want a certain player you can pay the prices and compete in the market. You can pay 24 mil for someone only worth 10mil and thats just as back up to the first team.

  8. The premiership is becoming a real life championship manager for the rich and famous.

  9. Even given the money RAFA will by crap!

I said this before Mourinho no matter how much guys hate him should be respected, its no easy feat to manage all the superstars and keep them all happy!

  10. Excellent news . Hopefully this deal will go through .They will inject much needed money into Liverpool that will see a debt of around 80 million pounds cleared and they will also finance the new stadium and also look out for some stunning new signings .

Henry is having trouble at arsenal and the man himself said that the only other english team that he'll play for is Liverpool ,so watch out Biggy Kuyt and Henry upfront , I can already see ferdinand shaking in his boots .

  11. Dream on Sheikh Cisse. If Henry moves his going to Barca. No way he'll leave the gunners for an English club. Maybe the Sheikh will buy some world class stars, maybe he'll bring some of the Arab lighties in. Either way Liverpool are KAK. Should he build a staduim i'm sure it will be class, these Arabs love the bling. But the Meyerside Trash will feel lost if its too smart. Is it true that meyerside is like 2 levels lower then 3rd grade Fietas dutchman

    ReplyDelete
  12. Guys,

I did not say that having money wins you titles. I said there is a link.

Remember when Blackburn won the league in the 90's? Did they have a great team, or was it because they bought the two top premiership strikers at that time?

I totally agree having wads of cash does not mean you will win titles, but it certainly helps.

A manager can only do with what he has at his disposal, I think Martin O’Neill is a good manager, but he does not have funds to turn Villa into a great team.

In United glory's years there were some "big buys". Stam, Cole, Yorke, etc. but in those days teams never used to buy more than a handful of big name (big price) players. The other teams did have money, but not the amounts like United had.

Now a day’s how many promising players are coming through the youth team?
How many of them are English?

With the competition these days, it is rare to have "homegrown" talent in the ranks. The lesser teams have them more out of necessity instead of development.

Look at SA soccer, how many teams have players from other African countries?

  13. Biggy they worst than that, when i was in uk after the world cup i went to ashburton grove n what a stadium, went to leeds after to visit family n they mad liverpool fans n guess what the liverpool supporters told me, go see old trafford its amazing but leave anfield coz the place is shit, i seen some of their pic's and liverpool okes im not exaggerating the flippin houses all around the stadium are pathetic with graffiti and its known as a slum, when no games are played its a prostitute and drug dealer hang out, newcastle and liverpool have big populations but little disposable income and are known as the poor area's of uk where alot of the manufacturing industries are based, so they do the hard work and the rest of uk bask in the money, please ask swoosh why he went for the tour to old trafford and not anfield when he went uk coz manchesters a 45 minute drive and liverpools a 1 and half hour drive from leeds, swoosh whats the answer since you hate them so much?

    ReplyDelete
  14. As for henry, i just read the article on sky sports and he claims nothings going on and he was upset for missing the derby against fellow london side spurs and if he goes im positive it will never be to another english club

  15. u can take the Scouser out of Liverpool but you cant take the scouse out of him!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Swoosh your sources are definately questionable, Henry wanting to play for liverpool i can understand but chelsea lost in a poker game is utter crap, is the paparazzi behind this?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Faaiz i dont care how the stadium looks! We do the talking on the field. On the takeover front the BBC site says that the sheikh is the 5th richest man in the world!Worth 10billion

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes faheem vezharz we can all see that, maybe you guys should stop talking so much on the field and play some soccer, for once you spot on

    ReplyDelete
  19. Pity they only talk at home and not away from home!

  20. AryM, i heard that coca cola r going to be the new sponsors... lets wait n c

We havent won the Flippen league ever since we wearing this Carlsberg logo, am i right?

  21. Good time for me to join into this fracas thats going on.
First of all you Ali Muggs are now slating Anfield and calling it Slums.
All you guys are doing is reincarnating Faheem Vahzerz and his theory of Liverpool plays k#$k because it has K$%k chics.

Money used to spend on players is obviously important. It separates teams. Azee Im going to tell Guvee to hit u on the head. F#$ken put Gordon Ingesund in as Chelsea manager He will struggle to make a mistake. Yes I agree a great manager commands th respect of his players. Hell If im on Mourinho's Salary I will respect the youngsters

Money Given as a salary now is a different story. Honestly Are you telling me that Perreira will take our owes all the Way. Never
Then why are we paying the Mugg so Much. MY POINT MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND AND ROUND

As for you FAAIZ, I happen to stay with my cousins one night who happen to be Die Hard Man Utd owes. Hell they even came in Football Monthly once. They dragged my and my grandpa there. I had no choice. You have to show respect to u visitors.
If you invite me to your house and serve my Daar Chawel.Even if i dont like it I have to swallow It.
But I must admit, Beautiful Stadium

I missed the Crown Paints Era. Now that was a sponsor. Am i right Cisse

    Swoosh

  22. Faaiz, SO WHAT IF LIVERPOOL IS A SLUM???
In this SLUM as you call it, you’ll find a special Trophy inside for keeps! a rear precious piece of jewel called the European Cup which was won five times!!!!!, the most prestigious club trophy in the world!
Do you guys have 1 in your posh backyard?
I think the closest you guys will get to the trophy is by visiting the ANFIELD TROPHY ROOM...

Just as a matter of fact this slum has produced a winning football side who brought 18 Football League titles to its name, as well as being the English club to have won the most number of UEFA Cups, European Supercups and English League Cups.

  23. Swoosh maybe faheem vezharz comments regarding the chicks needs some investigating, maybe thats why there away form is so shit coz the chicks everywhere else according to him are kak, can we get investigators in?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ebi you right we dont have one and i dont deny it, liverpool have the one trophy we desire and doesnt look like we'll get it this year, we'll come view the champions league trophy and you okes can come view the premiership trophy which has changed in the many years since you okes won it

    ReplyDelete
  25. EB-Kop End, I also heard that Coca Cola might be the new sponsors. As long that Carlsberg goes away, I'm happy.

Yip, we haven't won the title since carlsberg came on the front. The last was with Crown Paints. Let's see what comes of this!

    AryM

  26. and i heard on Radio Islam Coca Cola is SANHA approved...

  27. Swoosh, the yellow crown paints kit was special!

if i recall faheem vezharz said they playing kak because they screwing top class chiks! and that is taking there mind off the game. Mourinho is a class act, and u got to appreciate it. apart from being a good manager, he brings alot to the game with his constant inciting of opposition managers. to say gordon igesund would have done the same job is just not on!

i think a guy like Lippi would have failed at chelsea! ranieri failed?

i will tell the sathis from Quwat to have a word with you and check if you taking right.

    ReplyDelete
  28. To all Man United Mugs -
Will Fergie be red-faced than usual should United fail to reach the last 16 at the expense of Benfica for a second year running?

Pray u guys pull this off 2nite!

**** BENFICA ALL THE WAY!!! ****

    ReplyDelete
  29. azee u are sick!bottom line!2 say dat LIPPI wud have failed is simply utter bullshit! His right up there with the best managers in the world!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Azee common now! Any1 can manage a team of stars, all u need is some insight of the game and you need them to gel together! For F@#k sake, id like 2 c Mourinho manage Charlton or any other low budget team for that matter n c how he comes off... His ass will be grass!
I agree with Swoosh and his Gordon Igesund theory...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with Azee, the man deserves respect even though i hate him and dont get me the guys a f#@ken wanker but we cant overlook his achievements, he's proven himself and thats why he's at chelsea, faheem vezharz and jozi did you guys know he was at porto before winning the champions league and back to back league titles?

What kind of budget do you think he had? Chances are it wont be alot more than charlton faheem vezharz because english clubs are some of the highest paid in the world and thats why so many foreign investors are investing in the premier league

I personally think he is better than Lippi, maybe he's just lucky and wherever he goes he wins games but 4 years in a row at two different clubs winning major trophies common faheem vezharz and jozi its a achievement which most cannot do

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jose is a arrogant b@stard. Cries for every small thing that don't go his way. He also threw away a league medal, stating that he had one already. However his a great manager. He took the likes of John Terry from a nobody nigga to the big man on the block. He won the CL with Porto who had no big stars. If i'm not mistaken he won the Uefa Cup with them the year before. He also won the EPL in his first season in charge. Drogba wasn't a household name when he bought him. Boularuz as well. He has turned a very ordinary Chelsea into a major european team. As much as all other teams hate him, he still deserves respect for all his achieved.

    ReplyDelete
  33. the game needs arrogant guys like jose. its all part of the build up. he gets under peoples skins and gets them thinking about everything but the game! prior to his days at porto he was a back room guy at barca! he has been around. he made carvalho, pereira, maniche, deco who they are!

look at real madrid when del bosque went queroz and all the others like luxembergo coud not do shit! even the current italian prick(his name slips my mind) is having difficulties.

lippi is average, fergie had the better of him in those battles in the nineties!
