I am trying to structure this post so it could be relative to Hot Topics on hand. I see alot of banter going on about Christiano Ronaldo and Drogba and their diving. So I want to open the floor on the subject of Cheating,Diving etc. Lets reflect on instances that changed the cause of the game and incidently the entire tournament. Firstly Diego Maradona's famous incident and HAND OF GOD. It changed the game, changed history and Argentina won the biggest competition in the World. I ask myself. What If he had not used his hand. What would have happened. Fabio Grosso's speculative dive against the Ozzies was debatable. What if it didnt happen , What then. Lets go further into cheating, Floyd Landers, The man was good but he cheated, Diego was great but he cheated. I mean the hand of God will be talked about for decades.
Is it life that when you do something wrong people remember you for it and you become famous. I bet you if Maradona admitted he used his hands people would have said Oh yah he was honest.Good of him, Yet he cheats and the Hand Of God makes him a legend. What about the Comrads brothers that swopped and were identified by their wrist watches. What about the guy in Lenz that hid in a house and the last 5 k's of the marathon emerged and Won it I Think. What about Hansie. Will he be remembered as a great. Look at Juve. Moggi cheated and we Paid dearly. Inter cheated and they stayed.So did Milan
The second part to this article is Drug abuse and steroid. Maradona was great but he took Cocaine and got booted from the World Cup in Shame, But yet he is Idolised around the World. Why? Now after 19 years Ben Jhonson says he was spiked by Carl Lewis's team and its his Gold Medal.
I can go on. So my debate is
1.Diving is Cheating,Bottom Line,Totti was accused of doing it in Korea and we paid for it.It changed the game.
2. Does cheating take away your cedibility.Why is Maradona still a legend
3. What are you owes views on the HAND OF GOD. Azee as an English Fan be honest. I was gutted when I was a kid, that a man of his stature could get away unscathed
4. Is it about money that pushes guys to this level that they must do anything to win

welll according to biggy, because everybody is doing it, that makes it right. thats a load bull. Are we not concerned with the spirit of the game. Prostitution happens all over the world. ReplyDeleteDiving is cheating, no two ways about that. Using the Hand of God is cheating. When the ball goes over the line and the keeper pushes it out he too is cheating. Even faking an injury and time wasting go down as cheating.
Many would ask why they do it???
In order to win at any cost. To get any sort of advantage. When given the oppurtunity to pull a fast one over the Ref, MOST players take that chance for the benifit of their team. Also todays football stars are not sportsman, they celebraties. So the whole fair play aspect falls out the window. The true sportsman are few and far between in the modern day sports arena's. Thye all motivated by money,publicity and most important winning.
To ABR, my point to you was why single out one player when its done by everyone. Not once did i say that diving is right. With a case like Ronaldo, it is true he does dive but all you haters fail to say a word when he is taking out and doesn't get a second look from the ref. Where the justice there. The English media found there player to attack for the year and unfortunately its Ronaldo. When Stevie G dived in the CL final no one said a word.

Once again i will state that cheating of any sort is not right, but its happens and is gonna happen in time to come. It might work for you or against you, but its gonna happen and i don't see anyone stopping it. Just don't single out one player when he not the only one at fault.

AT THE RATE THEY DIVE YOU'D THINK OLD TRAFFORD WAS A INDOOR POOL FACILITY BUT LUCKILY WE DONT RESORT TO SUCH DESPERATE MEASURES

I think everybody does is so its a case of why should i not do it if everyone else is gaining advantage from it. the other problem with diving is u start to get a reputation and that sticks with you for life eg: klinsmann. Ronaldo is getting into that same mould. lets not forget that it all evens itself out, today u will get the penalty and tomorrow u will be on the receiving end.
ReplyDeletewith regard to drugs, my view is if its permormance enhancing its cheating, but a guy on Dagga or Coke should not get banned. its not affecting the way the guy plays.
if look at how many times ronaldo gets fouled in a game its annoying. Defenders are too slow to handle his pace, the only chodoo that can cope with him is Ashley cole.
ReplyDeleteIf he is in the box why should'nt he take advantage of any potential foul. Just like tripping is cheating, diving just balances the books. No one ever complains about how much he is fouled outside the box, cos if he was'nt he would driblle past 11 chodoo's all the time & score goals like that every week.
The final word : if you have the skill DIVE, balance the books, hehe!

as 4 the diving...liverpool won the CL thanks to a nice "kleepah" and a well rehearsed dive..but who cares? thats history, and liverpool supporters are great at teaching history! lol :)
somebody mentioned tha drogba was world-class, fact is, crespo is way better than he will ever be. maybe chelsea guys won't admit it cos crespo refuses to play for a team thats got no significant history, just ask the liverpool boys--they good at history!

ReplyDeleteMaradona did things with the ball and scored goals that till today could not be repeated but more importantly he did it when it counted in major games of the world cup under intense pressure and thats why he is hailed as the best there was and i agree, he like ronaldo are constantly fouled thanks to defenders who have no way of stopping them but there is no justification
ReplyDeleteThe sport will be much better of without diving and i cant believe im gona say this but i agree with the fuck head zunaid that video technology should be implemented, we see replays straight away so if a ref is not sure just ask the video room who will have already seen the replays, it will benefit the sport immensely and teach the future footballers not to dive coz u will get caught.
Ronaldo does dive but so do many others in every game played, i think he's just getting stick coz of his world cup theatrics but he should not be singled out and the liverpool okes just hate him coz the man is hot, drogba is definately up there is the oscar nominations zunaid
anyone who has played soccer, if on a pro or semi or even amatuer league will know the desire to win at any costs. It often happens that decisions go against you so when you have the chance to make a soft tackle look like a penalty or push the ball from behind the line you'll take it.

I'm not saying its right all im saying is that no way is it ever going to stop. Unless they get a third umpire with a TV it aint going to happen. Ppl just need to accept this and just hope it even itself out.
As for maradona, he took coke for fun, but it was not his fault in 94 when he was found with roids. He had a faulty sangoma who gave him all sorts of stuff. He is a genuis on the filed but a total fool off it.
