The World Cup starts today and I have been reading alot about how stadiums are not still completed. Any World Cup is a massive sporting event as well as an economic thrust for any host nation.
In the West Indies there has been alot of talk regarding the condition of the pitches. Yesterdays practise had to be moved because because of Nets not being up to scratch. South Africa vs Pakistan was largely attributed to a horrible pitch.
I ask you owes before the World Cup Starts. Will this be a factor in the forthcoming matches. Will the pitches swing the balance of the ties and make minnows like Bangladesh into Warriors. I mean the last thing we want to hear is Souh Africa played Holland and the pitch was terrible for the team batting second etc.
I think a host nation needs to have things like this checked before any major event.I mean not having stadiums ready is PROPOSTEROUS. How was the opening ceremony by the way
So I open the floor.
1. Are these pitches stuffed and in terrible condition?
2. Will or can they have an impact in important matches?
Also guys how are the times for viewing pleasure. Tonites gane starts in the evening. Is this a day game or a day nighter.
3. Or am I just talking shit$ and there is nothing to worry about really
For the keen cricket fans the big day has arrived...
ReplyDeleteThe pitches may be dodgy at times... but we will only know that later in the tournament.. if they play badly from the outset, it will quite unfortunate... but I also think it adds abit to the world cup...
This is probably one of the most open world cups ever... although SA and Australia are the teams to beat, all of the 8 big nations have a realistic chance... and if the pitches play funny (which could mean that spinners will play a bigger part) it will open up the tournament even more...
I don't expect any of the minnows (including bangladesh) to make the semis... format doesn't favour this.... at best they can knock one of the big teams out of the first round, but will then get hammered in the super 8s...
Can't wait for the opener... should be a cracker between 2 flamboyant and unpredictable teams...
Hope INZI lifts the trophy come April 28 !!!
PS: Viewing times are good... around 4pm to midnight... so should be able to watch most of it

the pitches will make it an even contest between bat and ball. scores of 230-240 will be the norm. the newly laid pitches together with the early morning starts will favour the side bowling first. the old pitches will be good batting wickets. the trend in this world cup will be to bat second.
ReplyDeleteQ. are the pitches suited to spinners or pace bowlers?
ReplyDeletecan someone please help me with the answer
Thats the beauty of cricket, there are so many variables which you dont have control over , like the pitch, winning the toss and all these play a huge part.
ReplyDeletein the last few years the pitches in the windies have become like sub continent pitches. they turn alot and there is a benifit in batting 1st. windies have been playing gayle and samuels who are part time spinners but who are containing batters. but the SA game against Pakis was a seam bowler pitch in the 1st hour. it moved around alot. its going to be interesting to see what the skippers do when they win the toss.
I dont think too many people know how they going to play.
its only fitting that after so many W Cups the windies get to host it. they dominated cricket for so long in the 70"S and 80"s and its about time they get to host it!
i don't really follow cricket that much, but i decided to sign up for the fantasy league anyway, think its gonna make watching the games a lot more interesting...WELL DONE SWOOSH!
