Ronaldo: 'I Want To Go To Madrid'
Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken out to Terra and apparently dropped the bombshell to Manchester United: he wants to play for Real Madrid, and seems to have urged the Spaniards to make a bid.

Speaking to the Brazilian website, Ronaldo apparently stopped hinting and explicitly stated his plans for the future.

"Yes, I would like to play for Real Madrid," he allegedly said to Terra.com.br.

"That's the truth, depending on what they are willing to spend on me and what Manchester United ask. But that's not up to me."

Apparently speaking in calm, measured tones to interviewer Julio Gomes Filho, Ronaldo said his piece and then closed the subject for the time being.

"I think I've put across an important message," he said.

"As of today, I will speak no more about this with absolutely anyone. I'll only talk about it after the Euros.

"Nobody is to ask me anymore, as I will not answer."

These utterances, made in the tranquil surroundings of Portugal's Euro 2008 training base in Neuchatel, will rock Manchester United's summer plans significantly.

The Old Trafford side, who have slammed Real Madrid and the Spanish capital press for unsettling Ronaldo, have stated in no uncertain terms that they will do their utmost to hold onto their prize asset.

Madrid, meanwhile, had previously pledged to break the bank for the goalscoring winger, although recent declarations about the difficult of signing Ronaldo have thrown such bravado into question. €80m could be the absolute bare minimum required.

However, one must ask exactly in what context the Golden Shoe winner spoke, and whether or not he was definitely speaking about this present transfer window. Indeed, some pundits have already questioned the veracity of the interview.

I ask the readers, Is this being just DIK KOP?
Is it the right thing to do for the young Penaltino, since his won everything at MAN UTD?
Will he suffer the curse of Madrid like Beckham, Owen, Cannavaro and the likes?
And more importantly will Man Utd survive without him? That is the big question

  1. United should then oblige and let him play for Madrid. Get the money in and plan for next season. No player is ever bigger than the club itself and if every player should put the club ahead of any personal desire.

If he's heart is not 100% Man Utd then he should be sold. Cantona just recently commented that Man Utd will continue to be successfull with or without Ronaldo, just like they did after he's retirement and after sales of key players like Stam, Beckham and Ruud.

Swoosh like your quote from Jives a few weeks back stated, the children can go as long as the father is still running the house we have nothing to worry about.

Take nothing away from the lad, he is a brilliant player, arguably the best in the world right now, but keeping him when he doesn't want to be there is not on.

I say sell him, let Real part with the 100 mill and then sign 4 top quality players and still come out with about 30 mill of change.

I have one rule when running a football club, no matter how talented a player may be, never beg him to play for you.He must have the desire to play and be commited to the cause, just like Gattuso.

  3. Don't worry United don't need him coz he is just one player-look at Beckham, where did it get him when he left, nowhere in the soccer world. So he can go to Real where they only win league titles and nothing else. I think Quaresma and Benzema are coming to United. He will not get much done at Real. I think probably he will go in the second half of the season when he is starting his decline.

I see your point, and for once maybe you make some sense.
Maybe if we just fielded one player against your 11, you scousers would stand a chance. Maybe. Just maybe.
