We were lucky against Cyprus. Antonio De Natale scoring in stoppage time to give Italy 3 points. Despite Lippi having to make two defensive substitutions Italy were constantly rattled and Cannavaro and Buffon were called upon to make a string of saves. Buffon was larger than life again and made some excellent saves. Barzagli was woeful at Centre Back and now the game with Geogia looms on Wednesday night, In this case three points was a precious, precious three points.

At least a good start for England even if it was against Andorra. Joe Cole once again shining for his COUNTRY. I was surprised with Capellos decision to leave out Becks and start with that ex MANC Stuart Downing. and surprised that Lescott partnered Terry. All well and good Wednesday Night against Croatia is the Big One. I wonder if England will pull it off and shake the Euro 2008 Voodoo.Azee what you think?

The other big guns all came trough including Spain. A good 1-0 triumph. But Why doesnt the French sack Domenech.(thanks sep, roza got me). In what was deemed as the lowest Point in French fooballing history they lost 3-1 to Austria. They now face Serbia and if they lose there the French are f#4ked

EVERYBODY KEPT SAYING HOW UNLUCKY Bafana Bafana were and they played well and they outplayed Nigeria. BUT WE JUST COULDNT SCORE.

Must SANTANA GO.......................................YES OR NO. ?

  1. Firstly Stuart downing was no MANC... Becks was.

and the coach of France is Domenech and not jacquet... jacquet was the coach in 1998

i know its ramadan n ur facts are bit shaky... so we will let these mistakes slide...

Stewart Downing grew up in Middlesbrough's Pallister Park estate and has been with the club he has supported since his school days. He is considered one of the most promising graduates of the Middlesbrough Academy.

His debut came on 24 April 2002 in a Premier League game away at Ipswich Town. He was limited to just three appearances during that season, plus a further three the following season despite scoring his first senior goal in a 4–1 League Cup victory over Brentford. He was sent out on loan to Sunderland in 2003 in order to gain experience. His first-team chances at Middlesbrough were limited due to the form of Bolo Zenden in the left-midfield slot. Downing's career began to take-off when he was recalled from his loan during an injury crisis and was pushed into the first-team.

The 2004–05 season saw Downing make fourty-nine appearances, scoring six goals, as well as providing numerous assists. His performances that season saw him called up to Sven Göran Eriksson's England squad in February 2005 for a friendly against the the Netherlands.[1]

A knee injury saw Downing sidelined for five months at the end of 2005,[2] though he returned to play his part in the run to the 2006 UEFA Cup Final, including three assists in the 4–2 (4–3 agg) victory over Steaua Bucharest in the semi-final second leg.[3]

Downing is considered by some Middlesbrough fans to be the team's best player. He has received criticism from both outsiders and a section of home supporters, as well as being made a scapegoat in England international matches, but retained the backing of the local media and the majority of fans.[4]

On 26 February 2008, Downing signed a new five-year contract, keeping him signed on at Middlesbrough until 2013.[5]

With the departure of Mark Schwarzer in May 2008, Downing is now Middlesbrough's longest serving player.

Downing's former agent Ian Elliott was arrested by Cleveland Police on 3 September 2008 after he was reported to the police by the player himself after he had concerns "regarding the way his and his company's affairs [had] been handled". He told Middlesbrough about his concerns some time earlier and the club advised him to involve lawyers and accountants to investigate, while The FA acted as liaison between the police and the club.[6]
