England's week of international football As you can imagine, the UK is going into overdrive this week with English pride. Any time the national squad come out for a run, the media have a field day and over-hype everything they possibly can to make the English football squad seem more than what they really are. Drawing the headlines pre and post the friendly against Slovakia were Wayne Rooney’s aggression and temperament, Ledley King’s knee (apparently swells up to three times its normal size and takes 3 days to recover),

Becks breaking of Bobby Moore’s record of 108 caps for an outfield player and mostly Capello being praised for being the greatest thing to happen to the English National squad since 1966 - Living in the UK, you’re certain to never forget that England won the World Cup in 1966, you’re reminded of that every time anyone mentions the English national squad. (Personally I believe 1966 was a great year for English football – Eric “The King” Cantona was born !!!) Capello’s hard line approach with the English squad is proving to be extremely popular and players are queuing up to say how much they enjoy playing under the new Gaffer.

Lampard graced a lot of the sports pages today after speaking about Capello to the press. He made references to the “WAG” culture that developed under Eriksson and how it’s no longer happening under Capello and also praised Capello’s ability to get the team in line and make strong decisions like not considering Owen for the squad. If England beat the Ukraine tomorrow, this will no doubt continue and the pedestal on which Capello stands will get higher and higher, the only problem is that will make his fall that much harder. If England fail to deliver a superb performance in South Africa next year and fail to win the World Cup, all the Capello praising will quickly be forgotten and he will be vilified ... it’s the English way !!!

I was speaking to a Portuguese badaam from Lisbon on facebook last night and she told me the people in Portuguese are furious with Penaltino. She said Ronaldo went on Portuguese TV and and clearly made a arse of himself by saying that If All the Portuguese Players played like him, then Portugal would not be in the current position that they in. her exact words were,What a arrogant and Vain prick!
