WELL DONE ABBERS-YOU MAKING US PROUD

As we always say on Swoosh0018 its a great feeling when our Chaps perform on the big stage and Well done to Yusuf Abdullah for some sublime recent performances in the IPL.Check this article below from cricket.co.za

Being in the right place at the right time can often do wonders for your career and taking the wicket of the Australian captain in your Twenty20 international debut won’t do you any harm either.
That is part of the story of the rise and rise of 26-year-old Durban swing bowler Yusuf Abdulla, whose hot streak of form in South Africa’s domestic season was enough to attract the attention of DLF Indian Premier League franchises.
And as is often the case, one man’s mishap turned out to be good fortune for him when the Kings XI Punjab had to hastily find a replacement for West Indian Jerome Taylor who was injured in a car accident in the build up to IPL.
Kings XI Punjab management’s thinking was: We’re playing six matches in Durban, so why not sign a young bowler who knows Kingsmead like the back of his hand? Abdulla’s 10 wickets at 16.88 in the domestic Pro20 competition had impressed the South African national selectors enough for him to get into the squad for two 20-overs internationals against Australia on home soil, and when he was called up for one of them he found the edge of Ricky Ponting, one of the most attacking batsman in the world, for a caught behind dismissal he will be able to tell his grandchildren about.
An average start in the IPL was followed by two standout performances in-a-row in the Kings XI Punjab’s first two victories of the tournament, after they had lost their first two in rain-curtailed contests.
No surprises… the first was in Durban – a seven-wicket triumph against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday, with a personal return of four for 31. And then came Cape Town, where the defending champions Rajasthan Royals were on the receiving end.
Abdulla grabbed two wickets in his second over, Robert Quiney caught by wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara and Dimitri Mascarenhas, who had his stumps shattered two balls later. At the end of the innings Abdulla castled the Royals’ top-scorer Ravindra Jadeja for 37 to finish with three 21, and shoot to second spot on the table of wicket-takers, one behind Deccan Chargers’ RP Singh.
Singh and Abdulla are both left-arm swing bowlers, and South Africa themselves have an embarrassment of riches in this department right now. Apart from Abdulla, they gave debuts to two others in the summer, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Wayne Parnell.
Some may say the Johannesburg-born Abdulla, is carrying around too many kilograms. If so, it doesn’t seem to affect his bowling performance. His pace is good and with his swing he can beat the best of bats.
There have been patches where his fielding has let him down. For example, in a vital Pro20 playoff game for the Dolphins against the Cobras, Abdulla put down a regulation catch in the deep at square-leg to give Graeme Smith a life. The Proteas captain made three scores in the 30s in playoffs and on that occasion he was able to give his side necessary impetus with a spate of quick boundaries.
With Abdulla showing match-winning ability in the IPL, it is something of an irony that the man regarded as the best limited-over bowler in South Africa, Charl Langeveldt, has not been given a run by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
But, for now, lefties rule, okay!

  1. He did really well, bowling to duminy at the death. Match winning performance. Credit must be given to the Wickey that took over captaincy as well.

Did anyone see Neil McKenzie? He was so nervous. Crazy stuff at the IPL.
